Tagging Julius Peppers

Anyone who thinks that we should have let peppers walk knows nothing about business. What a moronic idea. In the end by franchising him you have preserved your options and can still decide to let him go or keep him. We were not going to pay wildly for mediocre free agent talent just like we didn't last year either.

Franchising Peppers was the only response that is rational. Who in real life just gives away something that has value unless it is a donation and even then you get a tax writeoff.

If anyone of you "let him walk geniuses" have lots of stuff that have value you want to just give away for nothing, I will be glad to take them and sell them on ebay for what I can get. After all any compensation is better than none at all.

What makes Hurney so good is that he thinks things through with a clear business mind. He knows when to hold his water, when to take a gamble and when to compromise and work things out.

That is why he is a GM and we are all squabbling on a message board pretending to be so worldly and knowledgeable.

Pretty much.

No thinking GM in the league would have made the decision to just let him walk for nothing. I think a lot of the "just let him go" stuff is based in emotional decision making, i.e. "screw him; if he wants to leave just dump him".

Not exactly smart business :nonod:

Peppers is easily neutralized by:

1) Holding him. Holding is no longer called in the NFL.

2) Playing him to the inside, focing him to take a wide approach. With no pressure up the middle, this makes Peppers a non-factor on most passing downs.

Peppers is a waste without a great pass rushing DT to pair him with. The Panthers are thowing money away. If I were Peppers, then I'd want out of Carolina as well. Who wants to play with Lewis? And our horrible soft zone? What we needed was Albert Haynesworth paired with Peppers. Heynesworth up the middle + Peppers around the edge = dead QB. Teams would not be able to eat us alive throwing the ball. They would be forced to run the ball at Heynesworth and Kemo, or throw dinky 'intercept me' passes. Damn I wish we would have picked up Heynesworth. Now we will have to rely on Jake to rally us from behind when teams load the box to stop our running game. I don't want rely on Jake for ANYTHING. Oh well. Cross your fingers.

Fire up Madden and make the trade.

How will it be a miracle if they get a good deal for Peppers? Is it so hard to believe that another team would be willing to give up a couple of picks for a guy who had 14 1/2 sacks last year? I seriously doubt that any DE or OLB in this draft will have that kind of production as a rookie.

But isn't Pep's salary demands a factor as well?

    • I'm going with Robinson tonight.
    • I've watched and listened to several evaluations from the good ole youtubers.  From what I was able to watch, the first few drives before I left to do a job to the end of the game were very different for Bryce.  So he had a "good" game.  Which is great.  I love a win, period.  His WRs had some drops, thing ripped away, etc.  Not great, but a W is a W, right? I think the Panthers have to start Bryce.  You have to see if he continues to build on the good plays and make fewer and fewer bad plays.  No QB is going to play a perfect game.  But we need to continue to see Bryce make plays.  Does he have the ability to will his team to victory?  I'm not sure. I'm still in the Bryce is a backup QB camp.  I'm glad he had a good game, I glad we won, but I need to see more before we make a decision to keep or trade him.  Playing Andy literally does NOTHING to help you for the future.  Andy may not even resign with the Panthers.  We could be out both starting QBs by the time FA/Draft season hits. Ultimately, this is a Dan Morgan and Dave Canales issue.  Can they get value out of Bryce to help them improve the total roster?  Is there a FA QB who would be an upgrade?  A surprise cut or post season trade?  Or is there a QB at the top of the draft who they think they can mold into a high level starting QB?  I don't know. I do know I want to see more of Bryce Young and more out of him on the field.  I want to see the fire, the competitor come out.  I want him getting pissed.  I want him to grab his beanbag and tell us all he's the f'ing dude.  I just don't think we'll see that out of Bryce.  If not the fire, then let me see the ice - let me see the rattle proof dude who kills with accuracy and playmaking no matter how hot and crazy it gets.
