Tagging Julius Peppers

Marty Hurney did exactly what he had to do. You do not let a Julius Peppers walk without some compensation.

BTW, isn't it a bit hypocritical to complain about Hurney letting Moose and Witherspoon walk (even though they were both offered new contracts), and at the same time, complain that they're not letting Peppers walk?

there was a market for spoon and moose

you would think there was one for pep to but....not so much thus far

its not always black and white. it's not that he tags players or lets players walk...its that he makes the wrong decision. It has nothing to do with hypocrisy

B. I woulda let em walk, jus because i can't see a future with peppers and the panthers. The guy said he wanted out. Ok. So, you franchise a player who only shows up half the time, and u expect him to play 100% every time. The guy is screwing us in salary cap, he doesn't want to be here, and he won't even sign his tender. I mean, i will feel better if they trade him, but i just dont see hurney pulling anything off. Hopefully i am wrong...but if im not, then come summer time, there will be no pep at training camp

There is a huge market for Pep. I'm sure just about every team in the NFL is talking about Peppers. We won't hear about it till he signs his tender though.

How can you possibly know Hurney is making the wrong decision with Peppers? There is definitely a market for a pass rusher...there is always a market for pass rushers, and there is still time to work a trade.

Either way, unless you have real inside information from all the FO's that could possibly be interested in trading for Peppers, or what Peppers, his agent, and Hurney are planning behind the scenes, you don't really know anything.

OK I do not KNOW that this is the wrong decision. I thought it would be bad before he was tagged and it is still my opinion that letting him walk was the lesser of two evils but nobody knows for sure and even when a deal shakes out or Peppers suits up as a Panther, nothing will be definitive as the unknown possibilities with the alternative are mere speculation and opinion.

My basis is that his perceived and arguably negative baggage coupled with his desire to leave and try something else prohibits us from getting anything done efficiently and therefore rules us out of other deals that may or may not have presented themselves.

We chose the unknown over the unknown.

If he really wanted out he would have signed the tender by now. But I guess we will know for sure by late Sunday if he really wants out.

I did not think that this was up for debate. I thought it was understood that he wanted to go he just wanted to go under his terms and not be exposed as a crybaby when we chose to ship him to a non contender and he would be forced to "block a trade".

it seems to me that has taken every road to preserve his positive image to everyone except panther fans and staff. This tells me that he is pretty set on getting out of Charlotte.
