Football Outsiders: Carolina Panthers top offseason needs

If we we did bring in a real, honest to Zod, #2 corner. Hogan may could then be allowed to do PR. As he would not really be considered an actual starter. Then he can play nickel with Capt and Butller.

My giddy says win win. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But what if Hogan is a "real, honest to Zod, #2?" Do we just ignore other, more dire, needs just so he can be our PR? If the coaches feel he can be a legitimate #2, then that is what he needs to play, and we can use the high draft pick/money to fill other needs.

Hogan is as known as anyone in the draft. What I can say about him: Toward the end of the season he played in a few games. Most people said they didn't realize he was in the game. How often does a rookie CB come in the game when he is not picked apart by the opposing QB? I think the fact that he played quietly is a very good sign.

    • If you think Smith's hating on McMillian or tall recievers you didn't watch the video. He may have been guilty of that in the past but he says outright that his problem is people see a tall reciever and tend to overlook everything else about him. He was complimentary and believes the guy will pan out. His only real criticism was comparing Tetairoa to himself actually, saying like he felt like he took plays off when he wasn't the primary target.
    • I loved this draft. I think we have 3 starters out our first three picks. Maybe they take a year to develop but I don’t see them taking long.    I think Etiene is going to be a good back up. He’s only 20 so he has a lot to improve on.  I think we will see him be used on special teams this year. He won’t get many reps unless an injury happens because we got two 1,000 yard rb in front of him. I could see Ransom starting but I think he will probably be a back up, maybe playing special teams? I think hes probably got the lowest ceiling of all our drafted players. Cam Jackson will be a back up, probably not a lot of snaps this year. Could end up being a solid player for us.   I love the Mitchell Evans pick. He’s got potential to be our top TE. He had two different injuries that set him back in college but I think if he was healthy he would have been one of the top TE in the draft. I have even more faith in him because ND makes great tight ends. I don’t know if he will play much this year unless an injury happens though. Probably just a blocking TE this year.
