2010 Panthers vs this years Bobcats

Being a native of Charlotte, I agree with those that quit watching or said fug the NBA when

the Hornets left. I loved the Hornets as much as I do the panthers now until it was certain they were leaving. I quit watching right at that point. Never been able to embrace the Bobcats.

Which reminds me of this hillarious video.EDIT:vid nsfw

The bobcats are worse because not only do they suck but the structure of basketball doesn't given them an equal chance to succeed. Small market teams like the Bobcats are not going to be able to keep their stars because there is no hard salary cap like in football. Sure we have some promising rookies that when they get good, they will go elsewhere to the highest bidder in a big market where they can get more press just like James did in Cleveland and others before him.

With the Panthers we knew that we were a QB and some playmakers away from contending again. The team still had some playmakers and could recover. But basketball seems like a different animal. Players are about themselves and are about individual stats not the team. If they play well and the team loses they are still stars and can look forward to a big payday somewhere else. They don't have a franchise tag and you can't keep players on the team who want to play elsewhere.

Guys like Newton say they want to be here and make the Panthers great. Other than lip service, do most basketball players do the same? Not from what I have seen.

So yeah the Bobcats are abysmal and have less of a chance to turn that around. If their players excel, they can look forward to going to a big market and getting big bucks but won't be here long-term. We might contend for a year or two but build a consistent winner?????

That is why I am a PSL owner and have turned down season tickets for the Bobcats. Who wants to go to watch them get blown out by 30 points on a nightly basis.

While I agree with parts of this, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and the Clippers kind of prove the "sucking now means sucking forever, our stars will leave" idea.

Prove or disprove???? Either way there are always some exceptions to the rule but you don't throw out a rule because there is an exception to it. For that matter you could have brought up San Antonio or even Orlando and Dwight Howard. It still doesn't mean that Charlotte will retain their stars. Jordan has already dumped his stars once his payroll went into the top 10, why would he suddenly become a big spender. We are 13th in attendance despite being awful. Dumping this year is a big mistake.

I completely agree with this. I live in Wilmington NC and even here there is more Charlotte Hornets gear than Bobcats. It seems odd but I fully believe rebranding the Bobcats as the Hornets would revive the fan base.

Because the bobcats name has, and will always, suck.

Hornets or bust

For me, the NBA died when the Hornets left Charlotte. I was actually at the last-ever Hornets game in Charlotte Coliseum... oddly enough, it was my first Hornets game in Charlotte Coliseum. Freaking George Shinn...

I was there, too, against the Nets. I had hope they'd come back for game 6 that year.

Give us back the Hornets name

Give New Orleans the Jazz (what Jazz is in Utah?)

Give the Lakers name to Utah (Salt Lake City; what lake is in LA?)

Give the Bobcats to LA.

win-win-win-lose

As a Bobcats season ticket holder I understand what MJ is doing, he blew up the team to start fresh as being a perennial 6-7th seed was not sufficient for him (a la Atlanta Hawks). He got rid of heavy contracts and has set the team up with young talent and cap space becoming available.

Players coming off the books next year:

Diaw- 9 million

Najarea- 2.6 million

Diop- 7 million

Carroll- 3.5 million
