Did you ever think him being on the roadway (as in, driving his scooter on the roadway) and this little escapade could've caused someone else to get injured?

Glad someone stopped to help, but I find it laughable that people think these small things constitute a good person. It is the right thing to do. You aren't supposed to be rewarded for doing what is expected of you.

I was under the impression that motorized bikes & scooters basically had to stay on the road, but I'm not a resident of NC so I could be wrong. I'd say it's just as dangerous for others if he drove the thing on the sidewalks, probably moreso since then pedestrians would need to get into the road to avoid him :P

As to the second bit, since when is it expected of you that you stop and help a totally random stranger? It's not, and even if it was, I don't see how that is not a qualification for being a good person. Obviously it is not ALL there is to it, but it's something IMO. I wish we lived in a world where it was something that you could count on, but clearly we do not.

Expectations are that you don't harm others, not that you help others in need every single time imo. Perhaps that is part of the problem with our country, but that is the reality.

People see the same scene and react differently. For example,

  • Person - A: That's what you get for riding a scooter you dumbass!

  • Person - B: Somebody should really stop and check on the fella!

  • Person - C: I'm not stopping to help only to have his buddies come out from god knows where and rob me!

  • Person - D: That guy looks hurt maybe I can help him/them out!

Unfortunately society has made us afraid to get involved for various reasons, I think it just depends on the person and timing of the incident.
