great update on Ron Edwards

For the record I'm all for a vet Dt but not let's not threat this guy like the next coming of Brenston Buckner.

Actually, that would make a very good comparison. Buckner was just a decent/solid player who came in and played the smart and experienced roll next to Jenkins. That's exactly what I'd hope for from Edwards.

And a big question mark in Thomas Davis. What killed this defense last year as much as anything was giving up big plays typically by linebackers and our poor secondary. I see a second corner and an OLB as 2 of our 3 big needs. Yeah we need to shore up the run defense but I think that will happen when everyone comes back healthy. Like you I have serious questions about the secondary at both 2nd corner and free safety.

Great news.....Ron (in the pic shown) reminds me of Avery Brooks aka 'Hawk" on the old "Spenser For Hire" series....for those of you that remember (and are as old as dirt like me).;)

He could be very good but I have reserved opinion until he gets on the field again. Glad to see he is healthy and that he made effort to become apart of the team regardless of the horrible luck.

These little things that most of us are not even banking on are the reason we are getting some "dark horse" press right now.

We get Edwards back, draft the best DT available in the first (which was reported the draft is suddenly full of) and trade 3rd or 4th to the Giants for Osi. We would have a bad ass line.

Ron Edwards reminds me of a mix of Joe Greene, Deacon Jones, and '08 Albert Haynesworth.

I'm going to be honest for a second. I don't know why everyone on this board overrated Edwards. I'd like to see a show a hands of people that have ever seen him play or even know who he was before last year. I hope he comes in and plays well like the next guy, but give me a break. He's on the wrong side of 30 and coming of a bad injury. Yet everyone talks about him like a savior. I'll hold of on that.

I'm not counting on him to do much and wouldn't be suprised if he is off the team before the season unless he comes back and looks dominate. We got some younger guys we should look at and we'll probably spend a high pick on a Dt. No sense on wasting time with him unless he comes back 100% and he's a significant improvement on what we have

RR said he could have played last season towards the end, but since they

couldn't waste the roster spot early on..... they had to IR him.

Take Peppers, Rucker, and Jenkins off that line......and surround Buckner with Fua, Hardy, and Johnson and I bet Buckner would look less smart and less experienced.

also, let's be real....a lot of "fans" are lecturing those who questions Ron Edward's greatness have never watched him outside of 1 game or so..... and they didn't even realize they were watching him at the time.

Is that supposed to be a counterargument? It sounds like you're agreeing with him.

He said Buckner was solid, especially next to Jenkins. He didn't say he was the next messiah. Of course, he wouldn't have looked as great with Fua, Hardy, and Johnson. He's saying we don't need Edwards to be top-tier when our defensive line used to be top-tier with average ol' Brenston Buckner starting.

Yes. You read it here first folks. Linemen tend to play better when they are surrounded by other decent linemen as opposed to being surrounded by less than decent linemen.

The point was that we don't need every player on the line to be top-tier for our line to be top-tier. Entering the season with an old DT who's probably on the worse half of his career doesn't mean that our line is going to be sh*t next season or that we have to replace him first before we have a solid line.

I agree with you completely and I do not think it even needed to be explained. We all know that all players have a better chance to produce when surrounded by better players.

Knocking, or trying to knock, a player based on who he plays with is impossible.
