Mayock hits all the Huddle sore spots; Luck vs. Newton, AJ, and Coples

There a lot of sport critics who are going to look like idiots if Luck doesn't pan out. Thing is, a lot of folks have been really over hyping him for awhile now and these are the same guys who said that last year, Cam should have gone like #8 to #12 in the draft but certainly not #1.

Dear sweet lord... he spent a FULL YEAR at Blinn and a FULL YEAR at Auburn.

Yes.

It means the best endorsment Cam could get was from a coach was one who worked with him a couple months.

Holy poo...

In what kind of freaky alternate universe does TWELVE months = "a couple"

:banghead:

ITT: white people explaining that it's not racist to question the black guy's work ethic after he went through a shortened off season with the team with the worst record the year prior and went on to set rookie and all-time records on his way to arguably the greatest rookie season of all time

but now that we've established that questioning cam's work ethic is totally not racist in any way whatsoever, what can you guys tell me about his smile? is it still fake?

ITT: black people who scream racism every time a black guy is questioned about ANYTHING.

You read racism into what Mayock said. I see it as follows:

Mayock and the experts now see the unbelievable skill-set that Cam brings to the game....he has the ability to tranform the position maybe like no other QB before him....they see the true greatness that this kid CAN be. Will he continue to put in the effort to reach that unbelievable potential?

If he does, the sky is the limit. However, athletes who truly are physically gifted often have learned to get by on those atributes. They never HAD to put in the work to be the best....their physical abilities were already superior.

Cam could be a Top tier QB without working his ass off.....he just has the potential to be GREAT if he does.

He is a young kid who is seeing tremendous success and stardom very early in his career. There are tons of examples of players who start reading and believing their own press clippings and think they have arrived.

What has Cam done to call his work ethic into question?

I don't see his comments as racist but I could see it fall into the category of stereotyping along with lazy journalism.

Could you see it as stereotyping?

black people dont scream racism every time a black person is questioned. thats pretty ignorant. but we do question why we get questioned as not being smart enough, or are we willing to work hard.

now you are saying he would be a good QB without working hard, but thats the exact opposite of what some of you were saying before the draft last year.

If? Why if?

Has he exhibited bad work habits thus far?

Or do you merely anticipate them in the future?

"If" you ask.....BECAUSE HE HAS NOT DONE IT YET.

Saying "If he does" is not saying that we don't expect him to. It is merely acknowledging that the in actualy uncertainty in the future.

I believe that he will put in the effort, but there is NOTHING that will guarantee that he will. But, my belief that he will does NOT guarantee that he ACTUALLY will.

Not all do (and that is a valid point)....but there are many idiots in this thread that are. There are still those who think that anytime anyone questions anything about Cam, they are doing so because of his race. And those people are complete morons.

As you comment about what some were saying before the draft....you are correct. I had HUGE doubts on this guy coming into the draft. Those doubts were based on the fact that I was not comfortable spending the #1 pick on a QB who had not been asked to do the things in college that he would have to do as an NFL QB. I could not see it on tape....and that had ZERO to do with the color of his skin.

However, our FO and staff put him under the microscope and like what they saw. And, they were right....and I was wrong.

I would not trade Cam for the opportunity to have Luck. Cam has shown me things in his play that I was not sure he had. He is my QB and I am damn proud to have him as a Panther.

But, saying that he still needs to continue to put in the hard work and long hours is NOT a racially motivated remark.

I am not saying that he has done anything that should lead anyone to believe that he will start slacking off. Personally, I think he is truly driven to be great.

I just don't think Mayock's intention had anything to do with race. I agree that it is just sloppy and lazy journalism.

Agree with Panthro here... I don't know if Mayock is racist... honestly I doubt it, but why the work ethic questions. Cam has done nothing, zero, for anyone to have a legitimate question in regards to his work ethic. Therefore, what are the motivations behind the question? At the very least, it's stereotyping of Cam because he's black. I haven't heard one single word questioning Luck's work ethic... did he win two college national championships? Has he had a record setting NFL season? Hmmmm...
