Mayock hits all the Huddle sore spots; Luck vs. Newton, AJ, and Coples

Somebody call me when Luck passes for 4,000+ yards, rushes for 700+ and contributes in scoring 35 total touchdowns in his rookie season (all the while being one of the more scrutinized first overall picks in recent draft history, having little to no offseason work in his offensive system, having a shortened training camp to develop chemistry, and turning the worst offensive unit into a top five one).

When Luck does all that, then (and only then) will I consider him in the same breath as Cam

so if Luck throws for 5000 yards and has 40 touchdowns but has like 50 yards rushing you'll not consider him in the same breath? ;)

The reality is numbers ALONE mean very little. What Cam did was awesome, but it would have been awesome if he had fewer yards, too. It's as much about the way he turned around the offense so completely as any raw number you attribute to him, imo.

I hope Luck does well. I hope Cam keeps doing well. I think that it'll be good for the NFL to have more elite quarterbacks going at it on Sundays.

if we're talking about guys coming out of college, and not guys with pro experience, i would probably take newton third over luck and bradford too.

but obviously, now that Newton has played a year, why the hell would you take someone who is untested (Luck) over someone who his proven?

As to Bradford, he is better than he was this year but I'd still rather have Cam right now.

edit: people questioned Cam's work ethic because of the perception of his exit from Florida. The perception, whether it was driven by the media or what, was that he essentially left in disgrace, possibly amidst a cheating scandal, with a lot of problems at his back. This is why people questioned Cam.

IMO he has pretty much answered all those questions so I don't understand why people question his work ethic. I don't know if defenses will "figure him out" or something but I do know he's going to work hard to keep that from happening.

Wow...Is this the 1940's or 2012. The media was treating whatever took place at UF as if it was some serious ish. And I still don't see how is that incident in UF grounds to question this kid's work ethics. Especially since he went to two different schools and help them win championship.

It's like they were intentionally ignoring Blinn and Auburn and wanted to focus all of their attention on what Cam did at 18 because it was a blemish.

In my mind, the only thing that these two QBs could ever be compared on in the future are things like, come from behind wins, wins against winning % football teams etc.

as there are zero similarities between the two.

I'm over wasting a second on people comparing Newton to anyone because it just does not matter anymore.

He's here. He's the Panthers' QB for the foreseeable future. He's an amazing athlete. Hopefully he continues to grow and become an amazing QB.

What Mike Mayock, or Terry Bradshaw, or anyone does in comparing him to existing NFL or upcoming draft picks just doesn't matter anymore.

You people need to let it go. Who care what he says. You guys are defending Cam like he's your son. lol

Actually, I defend Eli Manning and Sanchez with the same passion.

But in all seriousness, I find it a bit presumptious to tell us who is going to be the a world class QB. What is the barometer being used to measure such prediction? I mean really. How many QB with Pro-style background fizzled in the NFL? I guess if the media likes and backs you you may have a greater chances of not losing your starting position despite how bad you play?

IMO, Mike and his buddies are simply saying to us fools, Luck will be given every chance in the book to succeed because we are going out on a limb for him.

The kid lost back-to-back Heisman. How often does that happens? Especially When you were a shoe-in to win them twice and both times you lost.

What if he throws for 3500 yards and leads the team to 11 wins and a playoff run?

The fact that you equate someone questioning an athlete's work ethic to being a racial remark proves only ONE thing....that you are likely a racist.

Cam's success WAS due to his unique skillset....and Chud's ability to really create a unique offense. Cam will have to continue to develop as a passer, because defense WILL adapt to some of the things that he was able to do. It is in NO WAY a guaranteed racially motivated remark.

Mayock very well may be a racist, but it is still SAD that so many STILL claim racism if anyone questions Cam.

You know who else needed to continue to develop as a passer?

EVERY SINGLE fuging ROOKIE QUARTERBACK TO EVER PLAY IN THE NFL

We didn't hear work ethic questions about all of them.

Really...

Harbaugh - Chizik

DeCastro, Martin, Fleener, Toby gerhart, Heisman Finalist - Nick Fairley

I am referring to what he will have at the Colts and what Cam has received at the Panthers ..not college.I should have clarified myself. My point is I think Cam has had a better supporting cast in the pros than Luck will have his first year in the pros.Fair enough?

I don't think that's really true. The Colts were in numerous games this year because of their defense. They couldn't score. Sound familiar? They are arguably only missing a QB in order to get double digit wins.
