Mayock hits all the Huddle sore spots; Luck vs. Newton, AJ, and Coples

First off when talking about racial bias with analysts it doesn't mean that they hate every black QB. But what does happen is often the bar is set higher for the black QB ESPECIALLY in the area of intelligence and work ethic. Often times black QBs have to prove that they are not dumb and lazy so people will stop questioning it (think Josh Freeman whose intelligence was questioned until he scored a 28 on the wonderlic) whereas a white QB often times has to "prove" they are dumb and lazy before that question exists.

The other thing is that many draft analysts equate any type of "street" in a person's voice as being unintelligent.

I love RG3 but he is also a nonthreatening black guy. He wears Superman and Sponge Bob Square pants socks. He is humble and articulate. He is the type of african American that many older white Americans find acceptable. Modest, dresses like a clown, and knows his place.

RG3 is the kind of black guy that white people hang out with so they can tell their friends they have a black friend so therefore they are not racists.

I completely agree.

Mayock may interpret Newton's cockiness as a negative, and I'm sure many people thought the same pre-draft. They thought Cam was a guy that could not be humble and earn the respect of a veteran NFL team.

Coming into this late, it would be hard to add to the great points so many have made in this thread. Suffice it to say Mayock's comments made me lose a bit more of my limited respect for him.

Here you have Luck, a guy who grew up in a well-to-do family with connections to the NFL. He is a smart guy (kudos to him) so he goes to Stanford, plays under a great coach for his first 3 years, and has played behind a really good offensive line that includes guys like DeCastro and Johnathon Martin, both guys expected to go in the top 15. He puts up good numbers, but not good enough to get a championship or Heisman.

Now tell me what is there that would indicate Luck has an exceptional work ethic? Has he overcome adversity at some point in his life? Has he led a bunch of guys with limited talent to overachieve? Or maybe, just maybe, he has done enough to not screw up a great situation. Nothing about Luck indicates he has exceptional work ethic.

There is no way to hide it. To people like Mayock, white QB's are assumed to have great work ethic unless proved otherwise, and black QB's are questioned on work ethic in all but the most extreme cases.

To petty people like Mayock, I have just one comment..."go fug yourselves".

Saying Cam needs to work on not letting his frustation screw up his mechanics and isolate himself from his teammates.......isn't bashing him. He is a young player. He is suppose to have things to work on.

this mindset where if you speak on a negative aspect you should be ashamed is retarded.

Cam needs to work on consistant mecahnics, consistant on field leadership, and not sucking ass in the 3rd Q. You can say all that, love what you have in Newton, and think he is on the road for greatness.

So you're basically saying Cam showing somefrustation to his game is a sign that he will slack off.

Wow....I now see how Cam's "Entertainer/Icon" misquote was able to gaine wings..Some of you folks really do have issues with blacks don't you?

I also hate the media and draftniks because they have forced me to root against Andrew Luck before he has even taken a snap in the NFL. It is a shame because I think he is going to be really good and I should be looking forward to what he is going to accomplish. Instead I just want him to fail as a fug you to all these draft guys saying he is the best QB ever.

I honestly can't wait for Luck to fall flat on his face trying to run Peyton's offense. I give the colts maybe 2 weeks before they realize that they have to throw away their playbook "Peyton Manning Saga Act VIII: The rookie edition", when they realize that Luck is just not going to cut it. I can't wait to shout "how's that extra year in college working out for you now, Luck!?". Ahhh, I can't wait...good times to be had.

what QB does not get lazy when they are frustrated. even Brady does, when things are going bad. he yells at teammates and coaches, will not step into throws, force passes so that point is mute.

They don't all let it effect there mechanics drastically or leadership......nor do they get as frustrated when games are winnable. Yes, all QBs show frustration but Cam has some clear work in that area to do. He really needs to work on how he comes out after the half......Chud too

Despite that, you made a great point. Haha

No. I am saying he needs to work on it and improve. I think Cam will work his tail off heading into each game......more his in game work ethic/consistency

My son plays on an 8 and under team. He plays DE and MLB. He is the defensive star of the team. One day some fathers of other players started saying that another kid is playing better and could possibly be better than my son eventually. I started to wish nothing but bad things on the really cool 8 year old boy who before they said something I felt was a really good player too. I felt bad about this ... briefly.

However now they are best of friends and arch rivals. He brings out the best in my son and serves as motivation when he has a lazy moment. I still think my son is better but I have learned that I'm always going to be biased so f$# it :). I'm only hoping Luck/Dalton plays well as it will serve as motivation for Cam.

This long story is just my way of saying you only hate Andrew Luck because you care so much for Cam. It's natural just embrace it. Hate Luck, The Golden Calf of Bristol and Andy Dalton with a clear conscious because that only shows you really like Cam. :p

yes they do. every single last one has shown frustration either with their line not protecting them or with a WR not running the same route. how the team comes out after the half is something everybody needs to work on.the execution is bad on every level.

i want Luck to be successful so when we face them in the super bowl and bust that tail, i can find Mayock and get his opinion on the two again.

Are you kidding? I want Luck to literally trip and fall on his face during the players' entrance in their very first game, so that Mayock can start eating some crow as soon as possible. I guess we're just two different people. :cam:

Again, they all show frustration......they don't all become different players.
