mike mayock's pre combine top 5's v. 2

Mayock has a vid on nfl.com talking about the D linemen, definitely worth a watch. He said he loves the DT's and hates the DE's. He also thinks that if we were just to go by Coples' sr tape, he shouldn't be taken anywhere in the top 3 rounds lol (he does like his jr tape though). I'm really buying into the Coples hate now to be honest with you. He really scares me.

I think spence may be the pick in the second. A little small, but the best WLB in the draft if you are looking to replace TD.

Love Sean Spence. He's a little undersized but he's an incredible player and that is honestly his only knock if you can find one.

Agreed. In the Rotoworld draft it has Luck, Kalil, Reiff, RG3, Richardson, Tannehill, Coples, which is why Claiborne fell to us.

While it seems highly unlikely, if the QB's and tackles put on a show at the combine and interview well, I could see the teams before us making runs at the three top QB's to make Claiborne fall.

It's not going to help that Tannehill won't work out at the combine. Hopeully he'll work out at a pro day prior to the draft.

Unfortunately Clairborne falling to us at 8, (And thats if we win the the toss) would pretty much take a miracle. A number of teams picking before us could use a CB and Tampa could definitely use Clairborne.

While I do acknowledge that the improbability of this scenario to play out is pretty high, look at the teams picking before us. How many of them have new people coming in? Weird things happen when a new staff comes in. Would Fox have been all aboard the Cam train last April? Who Knows? New coaches like to build around their own guys.

1) Indy - They'll be having a new coach, GM, QB, everything. They will go through a messy divorce with Manning, and what gets you over a relationship better than finding a new, hot girlfriend? Taking Luck is a foregone conclusion.

2) St. Louis - New coach that will more than likely want to either take a tackle to protect his inherited franchise QB, or give him a legit weapon to throw to in Blackmon.

3) Minnesota -All Day might not even be ready to play next season, so that means the offense is going through Ponder and you better have him protected. Can't really take a BPA luxury pick with Claiborne. Will be maybe Kalil or Reiff, whichever St. Louis didn't take, or if both are still on the board, whichever they have at the top of their board.

4) Cleveland - Could possibly take Trent Richardson because Hillis will probably be gone, but will more than likely take RG3.

5) Tampa Bay - New coach. Young QB that regressed. Blount sucks in the passing game. They could skip Claiborne in favor of a RB that can do everything you need him to to help your QB, so they take Richardson. Maybe a new regime wants to go in a different direction and he doesn't like Freeman? Could they reach for Tannehill? Unlikely, but again, with new regimes anything can happen.

6.) Washington - Impossible to predict what their needs will be before Free Agency passes. Snyder loves to sign big name guys, so he could be the one to pay for Manning or Flynn or some other FA QB, in which case he'll need a stud tackle to protect him. Could also reach for Tannehill.

7.) Jacksonville - What a mess. Could get a weapon for Gabbert in Kendall Wright, or could get someone like Quinton Coples.

8.) Carolina - We get a complete stud CB that falls to us at #8 because of dumb luck (coin flip) and good timing (a year where there are a lot of new coaches and their team needs outweigh the luxury of just taking BPA).

Improbable, I know. But it could happen.

I think the only real threat to taking Claiborne is TB, but they're almost a lock to. It would be absolutely ludicrous to take a RB when they have such a greater need at CB and Claiborne is as much BPA as Richardson. The only other real threats are Minnesota, St. Louis or Jacksonville. Minnesota needs a LT and are likely to take Kalil if he's available, if he's not I think they'll take Blackmon. They gotta help Ponder in one way or another. St. Louis will probably take either Kalil or Blackmon too for the same reason. Jacksonville *could* take Claiborne, but I don't see it happening. They also need to help their 2nd year QB and I think they'll reach for Floyd (or maybe even Wright, who knows when it comes to Jacksonville). Even if they don't reach for a WR, I think they have other concerns greater than CB that need prompt addressing.

the only thing is that in schiano's offense, RB is an integral part. they can't rely on anyone there for that or CB and right now finding a great RB is more important to the success of that team than a CB. also, there is a huge dropoff in talent at RB after richardson. at the spot they pick in the 2nd round there should be a much better choice of starting caliber CBs than RB.

they don't have a greater need at CB than RB. i'd say it's about even. prior to the reports of how blount was off the field having a massively poor work ethic...i would put CB slightly above RB, but after those reports i wouldn't be surprised to see blount released from the team. he;s not exactly the kind of guy you want around when you are trying to build a hard working and disciplined team, which is one thing that most agree about schiano.

i think it's 50/50 whether they go with claiborne or richardson, but if i was forced to choose between the two of them at this moment, i'd probably go with richardson just because he can bring more to their team than a CB.

This is sound logic. Not to mention TB has like $60MM to spend in FA. They pickup Grimes or Rogers, the chances of Claiborne dropping to us is that much better.

would love to agree with you guys, but I see it a bit differently. TB is a cheap team. they will pick up a RB in FA or later rounds. Claiborne will come cheaper than a Grimes or someone and remember that they now have to face a division that boasts, Brees, Ryan and Newton. They had better sure up the defensive secondary. Ronde Barber is 56 years old or close to it.
