#6 LeBron James

Clippers pounded em.

The Clippers have won five consecutive games against the Heat at home, the last three with LeBron James on the floor. They're 10-2 overall against Miami at Staples Center since 2001-02.

The Heat have a game Thursday night in Denver, but that didn't keep coach Erik Spoelstra from playing James the entire third quarter and the first 9 ½ minutes of the fourth. Even with the Heat down by 20 points with 5 ½ minutes left in the game, James was still on the floor. To his credit, he helped cut the deficit to 11 with 3:47 remaining, causing the Clippers to reinsert Paul and Griffin. Spoelstra finally waved the white flag and took James out with 2:30 left and the Heat trailing by 14.

"We view them as legit contenders for the title."- Spoelstra on the Clippers

James did not have a rebound in the first half. He finished with 30 points, seven assists and five rebounds

The Clipps are loaded with talent so the Heat arent gonna beat themselves up over losing to them on the road. It would be cool to see these 2 teams battle it out in the Finals. :)

Just watched the Clips hold off the veteran Spurs in the last 5 minutes of the 4th period for the W on the road in San Antonio.

They could just go all the way.

Dallas Cowboys fans watched on Thursday with a mix of agony and admiration as Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III led his team to an upset victory at Cowboys Stadium in the first nationally-televised game of his career.

One of the more famous Cowboys fans, Miami Heat forward LeBron James, couldn’t help but express his respect for Griffin, who threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns. After the game, James tweeted: “RGIII is a MONSTER!!”

My colleague Michael Lee was down in Miami on Friday, and was part of a media scrum in which James was asked about Griffin’s play against Dallas.

“I tweeted he’s a monster yesterday. I hated it had to be against the Cowboys, but I give props where props is due. He’s an animal,” James said. “He’s the first rookie to ever win in Cowboys Stadium on Turkey Day, but the passes he was making, honestly – the unbelievable pass to Santana Moss on the roll-out on the back shoulder, and over the middle to Pierre Garcon. He was making some unbelievable plays. He’s an unbelievable talent."

Asked if Griffin had converted him to the Redskins, James said, “No,” and walked away.

Heat are now back atop the Eastern Conference standings. LeBron is top 5 in scoring, top 15 in assists, top 20 in rebounds, shooting 52% from the field.

I thought you were a Bobcats fan?

We are 7-5 on the season, it wouldn't be cool to see the Heat...it would be cool to see the Bobcats in the finals.

I am a Bobcat fan. A bigger one than you in fact. The Hornets are not 7-5. The Hornets are not better than the Grizz, Spurs, or Clippers and wont sniff the Finals.

LeBron James is the most popular basketball player in the world, and the Heat are NBA champions, sorry if that bothers you so much. There's few NBA forums you'll find that don't discuss him.

Who said anything about the Hornets? (other than Michael Jordan) This is a thread created by a so called Bobcats fan who mentions that it would be great to see a team other than the Bobcats in the NBA finals. I just think that is weird.

Your not a bigger Bobcats fan than me, if you were you wouldn't comment about how cool it would be to see a team in the Bobcats division in the finals.

You could create a thread saying how cool it would be to see our 2 rookies shut down the best player in the world on our way to the finals.

LeBron James being the most popular basketball player in the world and NBA champion doesn't bother me, he seems like a good dude and has never gotten in one ounce of trouble despite being in the limelight since he was 12 or 13. Kudos to him.

The fact remains that I don't think it would be cool to see him in the finals, it would be "cool" to see MKG in the finals.

As a fan of the NBA, I think it would be great to see a Heat vs. Clippers Final. Many others agree.

Arent you the guy who said...

KT- the reason that no one clowns you about the Bobcats is nobody gives a fug about them. The Bobcats go unnoticed in their own city. Charlotte is indifferent about the Bobcats.

Now you're the biggest Bobcat fan in the world and wrote the Bobcats fan etiquette handbook. Just as I predicted months ago, you Hornets nostalgists are flip floppers and arent loyal to anything. Soon as the Bobs start winning you cling to their success and claim Bobcats, then when they lose, you're a Hornets fan and Anthony Davis is "your man". FOH, we're hip to your act and disloyalty Jgib.

You could create a thread saying how cool it would be to see our 2 rookies shut down the best player in the world on our way to the finals.

What is stopping you from making that thread? I haven't seen you in any Bobcats gameday posts this year over in that forum.

Then you should understand why he's a lot of people's favorite player, including mine. And why he's one of the most successful athletes in the world.

The fact remains that I don't think it would be cool to see him in the finals, it would be "cool" to see MKG in the finals.

It would be cool, but until the Bobcats become legit title contenders its unlikely. It'd be cool to see the Panthers in the Super Bowl, but me pointing out San Fran vs. NE would be a good game doesnt make me any less of a fan. What is more likely is the second the Bobcats go on a 6 game skid you will come in here talking about Charlotte Hornets merchandise sales, why the city doesnt care about the Bobcats, and why changing our name and erasing everything is for the best at this point.

Unfortunately, the Bobcats do go largely unnoticed in Charlotte, Charlotte is indifferent about them. Do you dispute that? If so, on what basis?

That doesn't mean that I don't care about them, I have never flipped flopped on them as they have been my favorite team since the beginning. I was in uptown the day the name, colors, and logo were unveiled. I don't like the name but, I love the team. I grew up a huge Michael Jordan fan and nothing would make me happier than him getting a 7th ring.

I have never pulled for Anthony Davis to score a single point in the NBA, I pulled for the Bobcats to win the lottery so they could draft him( as did everyone else who pulls for the Bobcats) The front of his jersey doesn't say Charlotte so he is nothing more than any other player on an opposing team.

I don't need a 6 game skid to talk about the Bobcats merchandise sales. The Bobcats had one of the ugliest color combinations, nicknames and logos in the NBA and I thought they were disgusting. They ranked dead last in the NBA for a reason. Michael Jordan must have agreed with me because he changed nearly everything about them. The new jerseys look soooo much better but, I still don't see anyone in Charlotte wearing anything Bobcats related. I was in both Southpark and Northlake Malls over the Thanksgiving holiday and didn't see 1 person with any Bobcats gear on ( old or new). I will be interested in seeing if the new merchandise, winning record and future all star MKG will result in an increase in Merchandise sales. Go to a Sports Authority or Dicks Sporting Goods and tell me how much Bobcats stuff you see.. You won't need more than a few fingers to count. The Sports Authority I visited had zero Bobcats items and the Dicks had a pullover and the draft hat. 2 stores, 2 items. I would be willing to bet that the Bobcats finish no higher than 27th in merchandise sales this season.

LeBron youngest to 20,000 career points

LeBron James was the youngest player in NBA history to win rookie of the year, to record a triple-double, to score 1,000 points, to score 10,000 points, to win MVP honors at an All-Star Game ...

You get the idea.

His latest youngest-to-do-it milestone could come as early as Wednesday. He needs 18 points to become the 38th NBA player to score 20,000 in his career. If it happens Wednesday when the Miami Heat visit the Golden State Warriors, James will be more than a year younger than anyone else to reach the mark.

"You look at how many players have come through this league, the history of the game," James said. "That 20K mark is very limited. How many guys have done that? It's very, very limited.

"It'll be big-time. I'm not going to shy away from that. I'm not a big stats guy as far as individual, but that'll be pretty cool."

James' teammates say he could have reached 20,000 even faster.

"If LeBron was a different kind of player, he'd have a lot more points by now," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "He's so unselfish. We give him the ball enough to score more. He just won't do it. We've had the discussion. We've sat down at dinner and we both said, `Sometimes, I wish I had it in me.' We talk about it, we joke about it, but when the game comes he's unselfish."

Considering James has scored at least 18 points in 74 of his last 75 games, including playoffs, the milestone would seem likely to be met against the Warriors. It's the next-to-last game of a struggle-filled road swing for the Heat. Miami is 1-3 so far on the trip, yet still remain a half-game ahead of the New York Knicks for first place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Maybe a little celebrating is exactly what the Heat need right now.

If James scores the historic 20,000th point on Wednesday, he will have done so at the age of 28 years, 17 days. According to STATS LLC, the youngest to date to score 20,000 points was Kobe Bryant, who got there when he was 29 years, 122 days old.

And only Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain (29 years, 134 days) and Michael Jordan (29 years, 326 days) reached the milestone before turning 30.

"LeBron can think about shooting, then he'll see one of his teammates are open, and then he makes the right play and gets the ball to them," Wade said.

From the time he started playing basketball, it's been driven into James' head that there's far more to the game than scoring.

Imagine if that wasn't the case.

It's a topic that some of his Heat teammates have debated more than once in recent weeks. The hypothetical scenario: What would happen if a plan was concocted to get James 35 shots in a game, or 40, or even more? How many points could he score? James has taken more than 25 shots in a game only once so far this season. Entering Tuesday's play, there's been 61 other instances of an NBA player shooting that many.

"LeBron taking 40 shots? Forget it," Heat guard James Jones said. "It's never happening."

He's probably right.

Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and James Harden are the top four scorers in the league this season, shooting a combined 48 percent. James is fifth entering Tuesday's play, shooting a career-best of nearly 55 percent.

"If you talk to all the basketball `people,' I'm not much of a scorer," James said. "When the conversation comes up with the best scorers in the game today, I'm never mentioned. Ever. It's Kobe, it's KD, it's Melo, it was D-Wade, but they don't talk about us anymore. When you talk about scorers, I never get mentioned."

In terms of games played, James could be the seventh-fastest in NBA history to join the 20,000 club.

Wednesday will be his 726th regular-season game. Chamberlain needed only 499 games to score 20,000, followed by Jordan (620), Oscar Robertson (671), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (684), Elgin Baylor (711) and Allen Iverson (713). If James gets it done on Wednesday, he'll reach the 20,000 mark one game faster than Shaquille O'Neal did.

"It shows, first of all, that I've been healthy," James said. "It shows that I've been fortunate enough to be on the floor and I've been able to work on my game. I've been able to work on my game and everything that I've worked on, I've been able to transfer that to a game situation. And I've had some teammates as well that have taken a little pressure off me, or I've been able to take pressure off them, by using my talents to the best of my ability."

Abdul-Jabbar owns the NBA record with 38,387 points. James is already just past halfway to that total.

And by his own measure, James' career is probably somewhere around the midway point.

It's not a completely farfetched notion that James could leave the game as its all-time points leader, especially since he has said in recent years that his goal is to be considered the game's greatest player when he retires.

"That many points is not what it's about for me," James said. "If I happen to get there, it'll be cool. I don't think I will. I don't know -- 38,000 is crazy. If I concentrated on just scoring, then I could make a push at it."

Wade is certain that if James wanted that record, he could make a run at it.

"Obviously, no one's done it yet," Wade said. "But if he stays healthy, he's the one who could challenge it."

(Pre)Congrats to LeBron. He's an amazing player and the best all around player that I've personally watched play live. Kobe is my favorite player and I'd still take a prime Kobe over LeBron, and I'm not saying this to bring LeBron down and prop Kobe up... It leads me to my next point... LeBron is probably the best all around player ever. I'm a huge fan of his game. He's always super efficient, makes the right play, has an extremely high basketball IQ, and does everything very well. I hope that he continues his success.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
