Thanks for the imput everyone.

Its a 2009 Honda Civic Si 4 door. 61,000 miles. I have all state, and what is this deminished value payment you speak of?

Well your car has been in 2 major wrecks. It's real worth is less than whatever it's book value is at this point. It's not a large payment but it's helps a little. Ask your adjuster about it.

75-80% figure varies from company to company.

If he was trying to make it totaled he would benefit from a higher estimate

Did you not read what you quoted??? Insurance companies could give two shits what the estimate says. They pay what the adjuster see's fit no matter what your quote says.

If you get rear ended hard enough to be forcefully pushed into another lane where you are rear ended again, surely you were hit hard enough that your neck is really messed up right?

Right?

Right.

And I might not know a whole lot about this but $12K for a Civic that was near totalled once and has 61,000 miles on it already seems like an extremely optimistic outlook on the cars actual value.

If its 9k or more damage then that the bitch is totalled. 8k would be right on the cusp. Before you get too excited about it being totalled, the insurance company may not give you a full 12k to pay it off, unless you have gap insurance.

Funny you say that, my neck is sore now. Nothing crazy though, and the 12k figure is what the dealership offered me two weeks ago when I was pricing a new car.

For starters... driving this around I'm sure you have no significant other and no kids. Therefore, you don't need 4-doors. But seriously, Kelley Blue Book is listing most of these between $14-16k with 30k fewer miles on them and they haven't been wrecked...twice.

So you may be in luck in getting it totaled. Problem is, you'll probably only see about $10k for it, if you're lucky.

They don't go off estimates. The insurance company gives you a check for what they think is fair and you do with it what you please.

That's incorrect, partially.

They will assess the damage and send you a check, but you'd be wise to submit your own estimates. The check my brother got two months ago would have only covered half the work.

So he got an estimate and they paid, without any hassle.
