Possible available Veteran DE ???

I was reading about Coples and found this about Jared Allen. Anyone else heard anything about this possibility?

The Minnesota Vikings, who pick third, and the Cleveland Browns, who are going fourth, both have needs along the defensive line, and either team could be the right fit for Coples if the Rams decide not to take another defensive end this year.

The Vikings have run a 4-3 during the Jared Allen era, but Allen doesn't want to play in a 3-4 defense, as current head coach Leslie Frazier has suggested might happen prior to the 2012 season.

The Vikings could be forced to take Coples out of necessity if Allen did happen to leave Minnesota in the coming weeks, but at the same time an Allen-Coples combination at defensive end could be big-time for the Vikings in the coming years.

won't happen but I would trade our 1st rounder next season for him.. he is a force to be reckon with and we'd have charles johnson playing opposite of him. Next year if we take the step we all believe we can we would be picking in the 20's at the earliest.. and he would help us tremendously. but it will not happen

i don't think he would be a FA at all either but that does not mean he would be available to the highest bidder. That being the case it shakes up what a lot of people in the top 10 draft slots could be attempting.

recent blogs (unreliable I know) from the four letter and other sources show that Leslie is rethinking the 3-4 idea he was high on earlier. So this is likely a dead thread/discussion anyway

    • Funny, because I think it's monumentally stupid to go in as a WR and not CB for him for two main reasons. First is that he's very slender, he has a much better chance at having a longer career as a CB than a WR because of that, and if he can't stay healthy as a WR, he's never going to get the huge contracts and play 10 years in the league like he could on the other side of the ball. The second and more important, is that CB is so much more difficult of a position to play at an elite level, you can't keep dipping your toe in and out of the water on that end and expect to be great. So if he's a full time WR, it will be really hard for him to play any CB part time and be successful at it and make it worth their while to let him to continue doing.  But if he's a full time CB, it's much easier for them to have a few select packages on offense to where he gets maybe 10 snaps a game, half as a decoy, half getting the ball in creative ways to get him space to work in and make a big play here or there. Because also if that works while being an all pro caliber CB, he'll get paid so much more than any CB due to what else he offers, which then would probably rival top WR money, but have the chance at a much longer career while doing so. He's also just a better CB than he is WR, so why go full time at your weaker position that is easier to do part time and still have success?
    • Why sign him for him to play 2-3 games before another trip to IR
    • This game would be 4-1 at worst with Freddie
