Building my first gaming rig

dude you got ripped off

Yeah that's way to high. Next time buy from newegg.

You gents may well be correct that I paid more for the parts than needed but...

I got them the same day I made the decision to buy (a very big deal for me)

I supported a local business (a pretty big deal for me)

and I furthered a relationship with a local merchant who has been good to me personally and professionally (worthy of note)

For me, the 1800.00 was a fair price.

edit:

OH and just for shits and giggles I went to newegg and priced the exact same rig. 1747.86 with shipping.

within a c-note of what I paid, hardly a rip off.

Add another 200$ saved if you had found a prebuilt with similar specs.

About $1800.00 got me this just about a month ago

Cooler Master Storm Scout Mid Tower ATX Gaming Case, Black, No Power Supply

PWS: 600W OCZ ModXStream Pro Power Supply, Modular Cables, 80+ Certified, SLI Certified, Active PFC

Processor:Intel Core i5 2500K Quad Core Unlocked Processor: 3.3GHz, 6MB L3 Cache, On-Chip Graphics,Socket 1155

Motherboard:Intel BOXDZ68DB Motherboard, ATX, Socket 1155, USB 3.0, Sata 6Gb/s, eSATA, RAID, HDMI, Firewire

Memory: 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Memory via 2 x 4GB Modules

OS SSD: Crucial C300 Series 64GB Solid State Drive, SATA 6 Gbps, 2.5"

Games SSD: Crucial C300 Series 64GB Solid State Drive, SATA 6 Gbps, 2.5"

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1TB SATA/6G Hard Drive, 3.5"

Optical Burner Drive: Samsung 22X SATA Dual Layer DVDRW Drive with Lightscribe and Burning Software, OEM, Black

Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX560 1GB PCI-E Video Card, SLI ready

Monitor x2:Asus VE247H 24" LED Widescreen Flat Panel LCD, HDMI & Speakers, Black

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition DVD, 64-bit, OEM

Picked up the parts and did the assembly myself. Bought it from a local company - Intrex - if your in the Triad or Triangle they have about 10 stores.

To be fair there are a couple things that boost the price on this unit.

He has an SSD drive (along with a 1TB storage drive) which will kick the crap out of the standard HD in the pre built. $120

Two 24" Asus LED Monitors, none in the pre built. $400

Windows 7 Pro vs Home. Extra $40

Additionally, I'd like to see what kind of Amps the rails are putting out on the 800 watt PSU on the prebuilt, I know the OCZ kicks ass.

So I wouldn't say he was ripped off.

so what you're saying is he could have gotten the 3.6 ghz 8 core i linked for 120$ more

he'd probably want to replace the psu, so 220$ more for a computer that is way better than an i5

the i5 is what i have a problem with in an 1800$ setup

He'd still have to buy the SSD drive and 2 24" LED Monitiors, so no.
