Panthers can clear $1 million in cap by letting Clausen go

If they only save $1 million by cutting him, I'm not sure what the advantage is. Any good backup they have to sign in his place isn't going to be measurably cheaper than $1 million in cap space for this coming year.
as others have asid and as i'm pretty sure i've said in this thread (not going back to read it to see) but where is the value in keeping a QB that doesn't fit the system? who can't stay in the pocket long enough to wait for plays to develop downfield and who doesn't have the arm to get it there?

if that money is going to be spent on a backup QB, let it be on someone who could actually step in and play without running a completely different playbook.

We havn't seen him since he has been getting actual QB coaching.

He could have surpassed Anderson in the offseason in value and production.

Not saying he has, but I'm not so sure that I feel comfortable with carrying only 2 QB's on the roster heading into the season.

That said, the coaches will know who to keep, Hurney listening is another story.

more than likely we wouldn't be going with just 2 QBs on the roster. we'll pick a cheaper option that is mobile and that can get the ball down the field. won't matter much, though. dude probably wouldn't be getting a jersey anymore than clausen did if we keep anderson around...at least not the first year.

But, Clausen does not equal good backup.

He is worthless on this team.

You are grossly over estimating the quality of backup QBs around the NFL. I'm no Clausen fan but compared to the crap out there, he is probably the best the Panthers could find.

What coaching is he getting during the offseason?

Doubt that. Clausen single handedly imploded a team with good RBs, a good OL, Pro Bowl WR and a decent defense. Undrafted kids have proven to not be that horrible. In a deep ball offense...Clausen is as bad as you can do
