Panthers can clear $1 million in cap by letting Clausen go

To Jaguarfan and Rayzor, never did I say he shouldnt be cut bc he was a "nice guy". I said i dont think hes getting a fair shot from you all. Any other rookie we would give them 2 or 3 yrs but we were writing him off after yr 1.

Now, if somebody would give me a good argument to cutting him then i couldnt complain. For me a good reason to cut him:

1. Picked up a qb in the draft with a similiar skillset to Cam so we wouldnt have to change the offence

For me a stupid reason to cut him:

1. Cut Jimmy bc he was awful as a rookie. Give me a ham sandwich for Jimmy.

Imagine if the front office gave up on players after 1 yr. Below are just a few examples of players who wouldnt be here.

1. Steve Smith (as a WR. As a PR or KR he would have sticked)

2. Deangelo

3. CJ

4. James Anderson

so he should be given a shot here? he was. the team gave up on him after one year. thats why they drafted newton. that's why he wasn't even given a jersey.

do people seriously believe he has any shot whatsoever of playing QB over newton?

he doesn't fit the scheme. the team would rather have derek anderson and armanti edwards play QB before even letting clausen have a jersey on game day again.

the worst thing that can happen for the panthers and for jimmy (as far as this relationship is concerned) is for him to stick around. the best he can ever realistically hope for is to be the backup.

if he gets released he'll have more of a real shot to compete for a job than he will ever have here again....and we'll have freed up a million bucks. win/win.

looks like this would make sense to do. Not really a fan of Jimmy the Pick but i doubt this is the last we see of him. Just my opinion.

we'll hear about him starting for some other team maybe and he might be successful. who knows? it's just not going to happen here.

Don't know if they're gonna cut him this year, but it's likely they will next season because his cap hit's gonna go up like whoa

7/28/2010: Signed a four-year, $6.3 million contract. The deal includes $2.533 million guaranteed and a fourth-year escalator that could boost Clausen's 2013 salary to $2.85 million. 2012: $490,000 (+ $923,000 roster bonus due 3/27), 2013: $575,000, 2014: Free Agent

no benefit to keeping him around.

I am not saying he should be given a shot to start but he could be a decent back up...that remains to be seen but its a possibility. His value is really low right now but he was a second round pick and if he had a good preseason maybe we could get something for him.

That is all I am saying. We shouldn't be so eager to give up on him as a backup but screw that he played horribly as a rookie so let's get rid of him.

hmmm....save $1mil now or take a gamble and see if in preseason he could be traded to pick up a late round draft pick.

i'd just rather move along. rookie season or not, he doesn't fit the system and has little value beyond that $1mil that can be cleared.

Like it has been said. JC has zero chance to play in Carolina. ZERO. Newton goes down, Anderson plays. If they both go down. We will pick someone else up before Clausen plays. I like Jimmy, thought he got a bum deal with Fox but, this is Cam's team and JC needs to move on. We need cap space and obviously since he never even suited up we don't really have plans to use him. Trade value,.... there is NO trade value. No team is going to sign him KNOWING we are trying to get rid of him. Even if he had a decent preseason. Most teams will sit it out before giving up picks for some they know we want to cut. The gamble for a low round draft pick is NOT worth 923K.

CUT him wish him luck elsewhere.
