Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Jerome Samson from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The team also reassigned forward Drayson Bowman to Charlotte.

This marks the second NHL recall this season for the 24-year old Samson. He played in three games with the Hurricanes following his Jan. 10 recall before an upper-body injury sidelined him for five games. The Greenfield Park, Que., native notched his first NHL goal on Jan. 10 against Philadelphia, and now has five points (1g, 4a) in 33 career NHL games with Carolina. Samson (6’0”, 195 lbs.) leads the Checkers with 18 goals, and ranks second among team skaters with 31 points while playing in 41 of the team’s 50 games this season. Samson has earned 256 points (124g, 132a) in 303 career AHL games with Albany and Charlotte, and was named to the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic but was unable to participate due to his NHL recall.

Good move by the Canes in my opinion. Samson has the best offensive game out of all the Checkers forwards except for Terry and to my knowledge and Terry to my knowledge is still on his entry level contract so he should eventually get a time to shine at the NHL level. But overall I think Samson gives us the most to be excited about because he has a polished offensive game and is a very hard worker.
