Bwood's UPDATED Mock Draft

2012 NFL Draft, Carolina Panthers Selection's:

Round 1, Dre Kirkpatrick CB Alabama.

Dre was falsely accused of a very minor offence so he should no longer be disregarded as our first round selection. Kirkpatrick is still the #2 corner, he has played at a high level his whole career with Bama and has the size and talent to come in here and start from day one. Dre has been compared to our very own Chris Gamble, so having #20 and #21 would bode well for Carolina's defense.

Round 2, Fletcher Cox DT Mississippi St.

Don't fret for all the die hard Brockers fans. Theres a big chance he still ends up the pick, but until he goes through the combine and proves himself to be the #1 defensive tackle in the draft and deserving of a top ten pick, I'm still not completely sold in investing on him. Cox is not a bad consolation prize either.

Round 4, Nigel Bradham OLB Florida St.

I've been a huge Bradham fan for a while and I believe he will be around in the 4th when we pick. I hope we can get him on our team or atleast a player with a similar skill set. We need a guy that stuff the run yet be able to drop back and cover Jimmy Graham.

Round 5, Janzen Jackson FS Mcneese St..

I strongly believe we are going to try and bring in a guy that can push Martin for the startign safety spot, whether it's in the draft or free agency. Also any sort of fast, defensive players to improve the special teams.

Round 6, Lucas Nix OG Pittsburgh.

It wouldn't be a mock draft without some random offensive linemen for depth in the 6th round.

Round 7, Blair Wlash K Georgia.

Walsh is the #1 kicker in the draft and Mare is garbage, do I need to give more of an analysis?

There is no way Cox drops to round 2. He's been heading up boards after already being considered a first rounder. He's top-15 on a lot of big boards now and Kiper has him ahead of Brockers (not that that means much :) )

* edit: if that would actually happen I would be ecstatic

i'm not crazy about the kirkpatrick pick, but it doesn't have anything to do with the pot thing (i'm not going to beat that dead horse).

it has to do with

1) him being more of a zone CB than a man coverage guy who would be great as a FS in our system, but i'm not crazy about spending a top 10 pick on a FS).

2) janoris jenkins being a better CB, esp. for the type defense we run. the only thing kirkpatrick has on jenkins is size, which jenkins has proven isn't a factor when he covers big WRs like aj green, julio, and jeffery.

And I would've bet my left nut that DaQuan Bowers wouldn't fall out of the top 15 of last years draft.

If the pipe wasn't lit. You must acquit.

Bowers was battling injury and questions about his ability to remain health. No such questions, have been brought up about Cox.

just as a reminder...

Da'Quan Bowers (DE, Clemson. Knee)

Thought at one point to be a possible No. 1 overall talent, Bowers' knees didn't pass the inspection of any team. Some worry he'll lose speed or need to be a passing-down only player -- and those are the ones that like him. Several teams have Bowers red-flagged, meaning that their medical staff would not sign off on the player being picked at all, let alone high in the draft. Let's be clear -- Bowers did not have microfracture in January, but the surgery he did have certainly points to degenerative problems, making it possible that Bowers would lose both speed and explosiveness both now and in the future. Teams playing on artificial turf seem especially concerned about Bowers. The best fit would be a team in the mid-20s willing to take a chance on Bowers, especially if they have a history with returning players from the procedure. Many have Bowers as a near-lock to Tampa at 20, but the Bucs lack the experience with the procedure. A better fit would be Philadelphia at 23 or Seattle at 25. He would be an absolute risk if he went anywhere near a No. 12 slot to Minnesota.

Just for some friendly discussion, would anyone be against drafting Dre to play FS and then picking up a solid FA corner like T.Thomas, L.Webb, B.Carr, B. Grimes, etc?

    • He might not be able to tie his shoes standing up like a freak NBA player, but he looks long on the field.
    • Ugh, I didn't even realize until today that they only versions they have for T-Mac right now are the ones where everything is heat pressed on, not the "fake stitched" versions you guys are talking about here. I've always hated those fully screen pressed ones, they just seem cheat and crappy to me, and even though that next step up is still not the best, they at least feel like more of a real jersey to me and is worth the extra 35 bucks to get them. But of course they don't sell them in that one yet, which is weird, if they're all still "pre-orders" anyways, why aren't they offering the more expensive version to steal even more money from the rubes out there like myself who just can't help themselves?!?!?
    • If you think Smith's hating on McMillian or tall recievers you didn't watch the video. He may have been guilty of that in the past but he says outright that his problem is people see a tall reciever and tend to overlook everything else about him. He was complimentary and believes the guy will pan out. His only real criticism was comparing Tetairoa to himself actually, saying like he felt like he took plays off when he wasn't the primary target.  EDIT: The AJ Green comp they made is way better than Evans. Small finesse reciever in a tall frame.
