I believe I've had an Epiphany.

is there a mathematical equation to figure out best player available? I don't see how that is figured out. How do you put grades on players? Doesn't make sense to me.

Not sure how they do the scouting but I'm sure they "grade" players some how.

I was all for CB in the first, but this draft is SOOOOO loaded at CB. Hosley, Gilmore, Dennard, Johnson, Boykin, Minnifield could all very well be there with our second pick. Outside of claiborne inexplicably falling, or one of those corners(Jenkins or Kirkpatrick) have an outstanding pro day and combine, I am hoping for something else in the 1st. I am always a proponent of trading down, as I did with the patriots in my mock. But assuming we keep the pick, I think anything other than Coples, Reiff, or Decastro would be a mistake. Not sold on the top DT's in the draft, and I honestly dont think we need one, one more rotation guy out of FA and we are set. No WR's early plz, Lafell is definitely starting material, and getting gettis back(tall speed guy in the slot) is going to be a big boost to the offense. Unless Kendall Wright comes out and runs a 4.25 40 and catches every ball throw at him on his pro day, Ill pass. Blackmon i have a sinking suspicion is gonna have a stinker of a combine. I really wouldnt be surprised to see a 4.6+ 40 out of him(Some people speculate he could run as high as a 4.8). Fwiw I still think he will be good, just not a superstar like some have pictured, think Anquan Boldin, had some solid seasons, but was never considered as one of the top WR's in the NFL.

Well there is my two cents. Sorry it was a bit long winded, just get wrapped up in it and seem to ramble on.

I doubt we go after a big name DT or DE in free agency. They cost too much and rarely deliver value for the bucks. The same is true of a shut down corner. I doubt we go after a big name or expensive player. The reason you draft a DE is because they are on a rookie contract for 4 or 5 years and earn their pay in the last 3 years of their contract. It is hard to find a great corner outside of the draft for a decent price.

Like usual we will look for guys who are reasonable because they are coming off injury, had a down year or haven't broken out yet. Hurney and the NFL player scouting staff do a great job finding guys who others have abandoned but still have something in the tank.

In the first and second I would go for BPA at a position of need. Someone who can make an immediate impact. After that going BPA regardless of need or position gives you the best value. Ignoring the defense no matter who is there on offense would be a big mistake IMO unless we pick up defensive players in FA. Then again the reason I am here debating this with all of you instead of sitting inside the Panther war room is because none of us are experts enough to do this for a living.
