Jason Peters plus or Jeff Otah?

Recommended Posts

The draft day trade between the Eagles and Panthers has essentially played itself out now with the Eagles trading that 29th pick and a 4th to the Bills in exchange for Jason Peters.

So the Panthers got Jeff Otah, and have enjoyed his services for one year.

The Eagles got Jason Peters, arguably one of the best LT in the league but had to pay him Jordan Gross money.

With the Panthers 2nd last year they traded down and got DT Trevor Laws and FS Quintin Demps. With the Panthers 4th they got G Mike McGlynn and have enjoyed their services for one year..

So, Panthers Jeff Otah.

Eagles got Jason Peters, Trevor Laws, Quintin Demps, Mike McGlynn, less a 4th round pick this year.

Happy with what we got versus the Eagles?

otah is what made our line one of the best in the leauge, keep in mind we also traded a much later first for a much higher one

Otah could end up being one of the better tackle's in the leauge as well

we all knew it was a steep price to pay, but the results couldn't have been better

I like how you analyzed that though it's a good way to illustrate the effects of the trade

not really

i mean yeah he's a bulldozer out there and I love him and compared to what philly got I don't regret the trade one bit because 2008 was an immensely entertaining year.

however i would contend from watching tape, and I don't have any numbers to back this up so I apologize, that the rapid maturation of kalil, the emergence of wharton as an elite guard and the synergy of the left side of the line had a lot more to do with it than anything.

Agreed, Wharton is as big a reason for our lines success as anyone else on it.

now in hindsight, the trade was completely unnecessary.

if we'd simply taken Otah when he had (or traded down to get him) and then taken Forte in the second, we'd have just the same talent production wise (i like stewart more than forte as a player but they put up comparable numbers) with the draft picks back.

That was the drum I was banging before last draft, but while we've pretty much seen Forte as good as he'll get, Stewart's got a lot of ceiling. With DeAngelo possibly gone in two years, that could end up being pretty important.

Remember, we looked like the odd man out in the RB derby after the 06 season with Addai and Maroney looking like superstars to be after a good rookie season. Looked a lot different in 08.

Too soon to tell. Gross looked like his ceiling was going to be a lot higher than it turned out to be after his rookie season. Otah is very promising.

Hurney and Fox pulled that trigger because they knew they needed a playoff spot to save their jobs.

just to take issue with this, I would be absolutely shocked if DeAngelo ever left via anything other than a trade.

I mean the guy doesn't care about money at all. When I say he doesn't understand it, I don't mean to say that he's stupid, but that he's incredibly intelligent and just doesn't give a poo about it.

i mean i hate to intellectualize up this message board but he's a fully self actualized person
