RG? RT? or both?...

Cam, Stewart and D-Will all had over 5 ypc.

The league average for qb sacks was 6.8% per dropback. Cam came in at 6.7%.

Cam got hit 65 times(6th lowest in nfl overall) vs 76.7 league average

or 12.5% of each dropback vs a league average of 14% percent per dropback

That 2 percent is substantial since each team average 544 dropbacks.

I think o-line should be fine based off of those stats.

edit: I see the link has different numbers. I went to NFL.COM and calculated it the old fashion way.

Stats in blue represent pass blocking. Teams are ranked according to adjusted sack rate' date=' which gives sacks (plus intentional grounding penalties) per pass attempt adjusted for down, distance, and opponent. Pass blocking stats are explained further here. Our sack totals may differ slightly from official NFL totals depending on the league's retroactive statistical adjustments.[/quote']

they took it a step further than I did.

Im hoping Ziemba is that guy, but he was quiet as hell last season.

I think Ziemba is a very good player, but I think he had a lot of reshaping and deprogramming to do from Malzahn's spread offense, even more so than Cam (who had the natural talent to do anything). Would have helped Ziemba more than most to have that offseason that was lost last year.

Looking forward to seeing him after a full year+ in the Panthers work-out program.

I don't trust Otah enough to count on him being a starter anymore.

Bell, Schwartz and Hangartner are all guys who should probably be backups.

If we really wanna talk playoffs, or Super Bowl, new starters are needed at both spots.

Eli Manning got hit 29 times with 11 sacks in the postseason.

So he was sacked 6.7% of his dropbacks and hit on 17.7% of his dropbacks.

May be the exception vs the rule but I don't think we absolutely have to have new starters their to make the playoffs.

I like Bell, I believe he has a lot of potential to be a good RT or RG. Probably a better fit to be a RG, the guy sat out of college a year after his little brother died in a house fire, went through some very dark times afterwards, came back to college and had a great season, nobody wanted him, believed he had character issues, nobody cared to investigate, no pro day, personal workouts from only the Panthers, and a lockout to deal with as a rookie, I have a soft spot or Bell, I lost a brother and I feel his pain, so maybe I'm bias, but I still think he did good for the situation he was put in.

How were we running in the red zone?

We feasted on a few bad teams to help pad some stats but I doubt overall that we have a rushing attack that can threaten a playoff caliber defense right now.

Add in that Newton accounted for a fair amount of the rushing (especially the TDs). That's not something I want to have to count on.

Chud evidently loves having Cam rush in the redzone, so regardless of who are lineman are thats not likely to stop.

The padding stat thing sounds just like TRD trying to discredit Cam

As far as running in the redzone and rush against playoff caliber teams you can look it up and post the stat to prove your point, just as I did to prove my point.

I did however take the liberty to start that process for you though, Stewart had 8.8 ypc and Deangelo had 7.6 ypc against the Saints in the last game of the season.

Outside the red zone, defenses have to back off because of the threat of Steve Smith. When things get tight, not so much. They're free to crowd the box as they please.

The right side of the line we have now is half decent at pass blocking, and Newton's mobility sometimes helps hide the flaws. But when it comes time to push guys out of the way, they just aren't good enough to get it done.

Do we have a good enough right side line to win some regular season games? Sure. Maybe even a lot.

Good enough to beat a playoff caliber defense when it's all on the line?

No :nonod:

The way I see it we are probably who we are as it comes to our O-line.

Schwartz did play fairly well at RG, and then RT. Otah has the tools to be elite. We have to give them the chance to show up. As of right now they ARE the right side of our line.

I am interested in how Otah is handled during OTAs and Training Camp. What is the trust level the coaches have for him? Do they bring him around slowly? Or do they throw him in the fire and see what happens?

IF he can be our RT we are gold. IF he can't, I hope we find out quickly, so we can address the situation. Personally, I just know Rivera is not going to put up with to much crap from him. So it could very well be a put up, or shut up scenario for Otah.

The Panther fan in me says hellyeahz to him getting on the field. But, I feel that way about damm near every player. (Beason, Edwards, Gettis, Hogan, TD...)

My giddy says hell yeah for a healthy Otah. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay You state they can not play well against playoff caliber defenses, lets look.

Deangelo Williams

Opponent:Average Yards per carry

Atlanta (2 games):6.9 ypc

Chicago:8.2 ypc

Detroit:7.3 ypc

Greenbay: 2.6 ypc (only 5 carries)

Houston:4.1 ypc

New Orleans: (2 games)10.5 ypc

and in the divison he avergaed 7.3 ypc

Jonathan Stewart

Opponent:Average Yards per carry

Atlanta (2 games):5.1

Chicago:6.5

Detroit:2.8

Greenbay:08

Houston:3.9

New Orleans(2 games):6.6

and in the division 7.8 ypc

So to recap they both played well against every playoff level team we faced last year with the exception of the Green Bay Shootout.

They also killed it in our own division, which we all know how important that is in a playoff race.
