Thoughts about Melvin Ingram

I heard he had 7 of his 10 sacks from the defensive tackle position. Also took a fake punt to the house.

You're starting to see him on alot of "experts" top ten lists.

He is definitely an athlete and loves the game. I actually sat by him through Statistics at USC and he isnt necessarily the biggest guy but he has a great motor (And he is terrible at Statistics...)

Yeah, he was in my speech class. He's definitely not the brightest. My problem is that he previously had issues with being overweight. He actually came into Carolina as a MLB. Just these past two years have you seen this high motor, now we will have to see which carries over to the pros.

charles johnson: 6'2 275 lbs

melvin ingram 6'2 270 lbs (without the benefit of a pro-level weight training program)

only significant difference is that ingram's arms are a couple inches shorter.

him being versatile (like charles johnson) does not make him a tweener any more than it makes johnson or hardy a tweener.

he's not some everette brown hobbit that doesn't really fit in a 3-4 or 4-3 at the pro level. he's got the size. weight, strength, and ability that would help him fit right in with DEs that can move to the inside when wanted (which is apparently pretty often).

i'm not living him at the 8/9 spot, but if we traded down a bit i most certainly would feel good about it. he's good as a pass rusher and against the run.

I wouldn't take the guy, but for every Everette Brown there's a Robert Mathis in the same mold. Ingram just doesn't seem to be special in any category. If he was an outstanding athlete like Dwight Freeney, who ran a 4.48 40 at the combine with a similar body build, maybe.

Heh, I wouldn't say for EVERY Everette Brown here's a Robert Mathis. The guys that don't work out at DE because they were too undersized vastly outnumber the guys who do well. There's really only two really good DEs that are below 270 (that I can think of, anyway) and they're both in Indianapolis (for now, anyway).

ingram is expected to run a 4.6 at the combine, fwiw. ran a 4.4 a couple years ago.

for a guy that is 6'2 270 that's pretty dadgum fast.

scratch that 270...supposedly he's up to 276.

SI.com draft analyst Tony Pauline is hearing that South Carolina DE Melvin Ingram will run a forty time in the 4.6s at the Combine.

Citing someone familiar with Ingram's pre-draft training, Pauline reports that Ingram has looked "fast" and "athletic," and South Carolina insiders say he ran in the 4.4s early in his college career, albeit when Ingram was 40 pounds lighter. Still, a 4.6 at 276 would certainly turn some heads. Ingram is the draft's most versatile pass rusher, capable of playing linebacker, end, and tackle. Feb. 10 - 1:21 pm et

Going to be a good player for someone. Probably not us though. I just do not see him at 8/9. One of those type players that will get to go to a somewhat better team drafting in the middle of the first or so.

The thing about drafting at 8/9 is that it is a position where you expect to get a Franchise type player. Not sure Ingram is at that level. Close, just no cigar.

Like some have stated. We absolutely need to get a playmaker. Don't really care what position he plays. I just want someone who puts the fear of Zod into the opponents.

We have a great opportunity to make a huge impact on this team. My giddy is absolutely giddy over the possibilities. After all, this is going to be the last time we draft this high for quite some time. So I am hoping for the best player available, to be a force to be reckoned with for a long time.

Excitement is the rule of the day. Get on board, or loose out. And GOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!
