Do you think Bills is a player for JP now

Age is a factor though.

If a team thinks he will play out the contract they give him at a high level, age shouldn't matter that much. Pep is a freakish athlete and has almost no injury history. I don't see any reason to think that he can't play another 4-5 years at a pro bowl level.

But Jared Allen didn't disappear for a season like Peppers did in 07, I think that's a big mitigating factor for any team looking at giving up high picks and a bundle of cash for Peppers. The way things have worked out, it looks like the guy dogged it in 07 and played well in 08 b/c it was a contract year and he wanted out... that puts a big "buyer beware" sign around his neck.

I also think teams have to be scratching their heads about how a guy who has gone to 4 pro-bowls and had a career high 14.5 sacks last year says he wants to leave because he's not reaching his potential?

You mean played well in EVERY other season since he's been in the league. The '07 season was the aberration. The '08 year wasn't a "contract year" performance, it was simply Peppers returning to form after having a down year for whatever reason (not gonna speculate).

Peppers did have a legitimate medical issue in his down year (whether you choose to believe it or not). And while neither he, nor the team, has made it public, any team interested in him would have access to his medical records to alleviate any concerns they may have.

Also, his overall body of work shows that he is not one of those contract year guys. With the exception of that one season, he has been generally very good every year. And while we can debate whether he takes plays off or gives 100% all we want, his production, from a league standpoint, has been relatively consistent. So with only one year being a down year, that is an anomoly, not a trend...and won't be an issue.

I expect whoever trades for him gives us Jared Allen type compensation or we will not trade him

Right, I don't think we have a "take what we can get" mentality. Although some fans say they'd take only a 2nd for Peppers, I think there is ZERO chance Hurney agrees to that. A 1st and two 3rds seems like the bare minimum, otherwise we just keep him.

yeah Hurney is the type of guy who is just dumb enough to think he will get maximum effort out of Julus Peppers this year.

Im ral glad he is our GM

I would really hate us to get a 1st in THIS years draft... I would rather get 3 2nds than a 1st and a 2nd... Instead, a 1st next year and then fill in the blanks this year (whether it be a 2nd, or a 3rd, or 2 3rds, whatever you feel... I would rather see us get a 1st next year if a 1st is even involved at all)

and Carolinarolls, you were so pleasant this time last year.... What happened? Hurney and Fox were doing great and now they can't do anything right.

If you think that if Pep stays he won't contribute fully, then you may be underestimating HIS situation being 30 next year... If he sits out or doesn't contribute, he's only hurting himself. And I don't care how much lack of motivation you think he has, he isn't that unmotivated...

As for Hurney, there is absolutely NOONE to replace peppers in this draft. Also, there is absolutely noone WORTH picking up in FA who could replace Pep (even as unmotivated as you think he will be).

Since you're totally ignoring the facts that his teammates seem to think he might be reconsidering his stance and since all you have read are beat writers over analyzing (such as most of you all are) and over exaggerating this situation, I guess I would feel the same as you.

If we can't get something huge in return I'd say no. Giving away the most feared and gameplanned player on your defense without equal compensation is beyond stupid. He can play another year until we figure out what we'll do to replace him.

After a year of Meeks and perhaps a strong run in the playoffs he may change his mind. He'd get a statue if he stayed for sure.
