Pat White in the second round for Panthers?

Yeah but as bad as in the end it turned out Vick did win a ton of games for them. He is a scumbag dont get me wrong , but he was a gamechanger.

At the start yes, but as teams figured him out the damage he would actually inflict was greatly limited.

Remind me, how many passes has he thrown in the NFL??

Oh yeah.......none.

comparing how they did in college....white was much better than vick. how vick was as a passer shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone. he ran for two reasons: 1) he was good at it and 2) he couldn't throw very well.

white does both well and used it to his teams advantage to stress out defenses.

Oh come on, thats true of every QB every drafted. We are all guessing on what every player in the draft will turn out.

Exactly. So comparing him to a quarterback who was a 3 time probowler and suggesting he is a better passer is purely speculative. Right now he is a project who might see the field in a couple of years. People talk about him like a sure thing.

How do you compare a college quarterback who played 4 years and frankly didn't break out with a decent season until he was senior with a guy who only played 2 years in an offense which was much more restrictive that White's.

Lets compare their first two years with each other.

White- 293 att, 183 comp, 62%, 2483 yards 21 TDs, 12 sacks

Vick 332 attempts 187 comp, 56%, 3279 yards, 21 TDs, 12 sacks

White gets a slight edge in comp percentage, vick gets a large edge on passing yards, the rest is even. If Vick ran because he couldn't throw then why did White run for more yards his first two years? Because he couldn't pass either??

Don't know where you got White was a much better passer or player. Numbers don't support it.

This is where stats fail us. When you turn to game tape it's much clearer that White was much more accurate with his passes and that the plays called in his first 3 years didn't really do much to showcase his potential as an NFL QB.

Drafting White in the 2nd round is a no brainer to me. I would give up Moore or McCown's roster spot 1 or the other to take on White. If we keep Moore allow him to battle for the #2 spot in 2009. He has earned that at this point. I would make Pat White #3 QB for 2009. Allow him to sit and learn the offensive playbook and gain familiarity and respect with his teammates. Pat White does not take a snap for me in 2009. Only way I allow Pat White to play in a game in 2009 is if Jake Delhomme and my #2 guy go down. If we win games in the playoffs in 09 then hey, Jake is our guy. But if we put up another sub .500 year Im blowing this fuger up and having an open comp in 2010. I tell Jake thanks for the memories and give Moore and White a chance to battle it out to become the starter. Whichever one steps up and makes the plays is my guy. The other player becomes my #2. Thats my handle.

I think this approach has some merit. Although I might be tempted to run some Wildcat plays for him.

But I like it a whole lot better if we have some other picks gained from Peps departure.

In our present position with what Pep has forced on us, it's tough to absorb a 2nd round future project.

And that is the point. If we want a project we can find guys in the later rounds. If we had a first rounder them maybe a 2nd on White could be justified. But he won't see the field for years possibly. We need an impact player in round 2 through 4. After that we will likely be finding backups, projects, and our latest quarterback project.

Someone will pick him up. I doubt it is us unless we trade Peppers.

You left out INT I figure it was because he didnt help your argument.
