Pat White in the second round for Panthers?

I have not noticed KT's other posts, but he does have some valid points in this one as I see it. Yes the NFL has made strides in regards to hiring black QBs, but when you look at the stats, these guys that have been mentioned are a drop in the bucket when compared to QBs as a whole. This disparity is even more peculiar when you realize just how many blacks are in the NFL playing at other positions. Now KT may not necessarily believe that organizations in the NFL are being overtly racist, but when scrutinizing the lack of black QBs in a historical perspective, particularly when looking at all the numbers, whether it's overt or covert racism---if racism at all---that is skewing the numbers really doesn't make any difference to the end result (especially when a great character guy like White is negatively compared to the likes of Vince Young and Michael Vick). It may seem a stretch to think that an NFL team would overlook a talent because of subliminal comparisons to other less successful black QBs, but everyone is battling their own stereotypes born out of America's ambivalent history when it comes to different levels of expectations based on race. And the members of NFL organizations aren't any more special than any other members of entrenched institutions in this nation. They all have their pasts, and their demons. Yes, it's better, but it is still not where it needs to be, regardless of what KT, MC, or anyone else believes or says.

Just keeping it real.

All this being said, I think that White has the possibility to become a fine QB, and I really don't see him being similar to Young or Vick in his physical skill set, nor his mental ability/toughness when it comes to leading an NFL franchise. I can see why people would realistically make comparisons to Seneca Wallace (and even Jeff Garcia), but the jury is still out, as it is on every rookie QB who has made it to the pros. This forum should be about White's unique skill set, and how that could fit in with the Panthers. The arguments can really be made without all comparisons actually. It may be a bit simplistic, but if are to make comparisons, we probably should be comparing him to our QBs, and whether or not he is worth that second round pick?

There's a limit though - the first two posts are fun but by the 26th post you're annoyed and in some cases starting to look like a fool yourself for spending so much time trying to convince someone whose opinion isn't wavering that you're right.

If it were person to person I wouldn't care at all, but on an open message board when someone deliberately posts false information and one-sided arguments it needs to be brought to light. A lot of misconceptions start in ways like that.

As for looking a fool myself, it's not of importance since noone is going to give me much respect anyways. :)

Ill bite. Drafting White in the 2nd round is a no brainer to me. I would give up Moore or McCown's roster spot 1 or the other to take on White. If we keep Moore allow him to battle for the #2 spot in 2009. He has earned that at this point. I would make Pat White #3 QB for 2009. Allow him to sit and learn the offensive playbook and gain familiarity and respect with his teammates. Pat White does not take a snap for me in 2009. Only way I allow Pat White to play in a game in 2009 is if Jake Delhomme and my #2 guy go down. If we win games in the playoffs in 09 then hey, Jake is our guy. But if we put up another sub .500 year Im blowing this fuger up and having an open comp in 2010. I tell Jake thanks for the memories and give Moore and White a chance to battle it out to become the starter. Whichever one steps up and makes the plays is my guy. The other player becomes my #2. Thats my handle.

REALITY

Mr.White more than likely will be drafted before #59 and the Panthers brass will breath a sigh of relief they avoid another QB controversy. I can hear Coach Fox answer a Pat White question in the press conference on Saturday now "Pat White is a fantastic player and one of the ones we were looking at as a potential player. Unfortunately another team with a higher pick than us thought just as highly of him as we did. We're happy with the player we picked" I know this team like the back of my hand. :D

Yall may not like what I say but the only reason I want us to take Pat White and to us to change our view on black QBs is because I want to see us succeed!!! Black & blue!!! We're still kin whether you like it or not baby.

Barring a trade, the Panthers will take a CB with their 2nd round draft pick. Taharqa said it!!!

I would do basically the same thing.

And I think sometimes we lose sight of the fact that what we really are watching is in the end just a game. And games are supposed to be fun.

Losing isn't fun, no matter how exciting the QB is. I'm not insinuating Pat White would lose games for us, in fact quite the opposite, but if we had a guy like Vick it'd be bad.... real bad.
