hall of fame lineman speaks out against JR

Ok so I guess that is why there are waiting lists for infant day care at some schools, extracurricular activity profiles for pre-schoolers, a plethora of degrees and diplomas that could cost a person upwards of half a million dollars in education instead of moms crying as dad pats elroy on the back after HS graduation and says "GOOD LUCK".

If yo think its luck, that's your first excuse.

lol. being born to parents who emphasize education and success in a wealthy country is your first lucky break.

having your parents put you on waiting lists for good schools and being able to pay for those schools or move to areas where you can go to them is your second.

Those two things are huge... and that's before you're even 3 years old. What have you done to deserve such great things at 3? you been working overtime? putting in longer hours than the rest of the kids in pre k? do you want it more than them?

if you think that's not luck you're an asshole. and that's just the beginning.

It's not luck. I wasn't given that. And the only reason it exists is because dumb ass people who wait around on luck and never get it, struggle their ass off to start their kids off like this in hopes to instill the hard work ethic early on because they realized they were wrong as hell about "luck" during their life or don't want to leave their kids chances up to the "lucky sun" that never shined on their own asses.

Is a person lucky for having parents that weren't but were still smart enough to instill different values in them as a child.... maybe. But that is a different story altogether and has nothing to do with what decisions you have in front of you from as early as middle school on.

I'm not discounting the importance of hard work... hard work is a given, you can't survive on luck.

you think luck has anything to do with Thomas Davis' situation? or do you think he deserves the situation he's in?

evidence, hmm

bleeding from ears is not natural

tinnitus is not natural

blurry vision is not natural

chronic headache is not natural

regaining consciousness by someone snapping a capsule of ammonia in your face is ..NOT NATURAL.

these things being associated with playing a violent sport, a sport that everyone knows is violent, makes it hard to ignore.

building an exoskeleton out of athletic tape around a hobbled ankle or knee just so you can go out there and do a job is not common among most vocations.

Taking a hand full of pills for pain, injections for mobility, and ice baths to reduce swelling is not how most people spend their evening after a shift at the plant.

Just because someone calls it a concussion now instead of a blow to the head then makes no difference at all.

They knew what they were doing to their bodies and most would not change a second of their experience. Go somewhere else with that bleeding heart "new evidence suggests" bullsh-t dude. We all feel bad but let's not wander around completely ignorant of the facts.

Its easy to go back and say that now, hindsight is 20/20. But none of those are long-term issues. You would think that if these issues were so easily identified that someone over the decades (perhaps one of the many team doctors) would have said something. Yet I cant remember a single person claiming that playing football in the NFL would lead to debilitating chronic diseases in 20 years.

That being said, you cant hold the league responsible unless they knew the dangers, which I dont think they did.

a millionaire? business owner? hard worker who keeps coming back from huge and for most people insurmountable obstacles in his profession. Like most professional athletes he was lucky to be born with talent but I think he has proven over and over that he can put in the work to maximize his gifts.

what situation are you talking about exactly. pretty terrible example for the argument you are trying to make LOL.

I don't know how you can really believe this. Again, just because they did not call it the same thing as they might call it today, players, fans, trainers, and owners all knew that the game was violent and that the injuries were not abnormal.

In the early 50's we developed ways to compress and decompress humans who were "deep divers" in the Navy to decrease the amount of swelling all over the body, chiefly the brain that was inside of the skull.

Blows to the head, trauma to the head, swelling of the brain, and even migraine syndrome pain was quite well understood in this era. We weren't cavemen running around face-clubbing the women we wanted to f-ck.

At no point in relative history did a person think that bleeding from the ear or blurry vision or passing out at random was normal nor did they fail to blame a sharp blow to the head as the culprit if in fact a sharp blow to the head directly preceded any of these symptoms.

Again, there is a HUGE difference between unusual unhealthy behavior and serious long term health consequences. The fact that football has a lot of negative short term effects in no way proves that it will inevitably cause health problems later in life.

Again, if you could show me someone who thought that way 20 years ago it would be different, but nobody was paying any attention to the long term effects back then

We agree that the league is not responsible. I think we agree that the "negative short term effects" were clearly abnormal from most other professions even other professional sports. The suffering players do not have a case any way we look at it.
