Well for the time being he wanted 23 million a year, said no to the Saints 18 million a year offer, so they Franchise him and now he gets only 16.4 million?

Yeah, he'll still get a great contract somewhere eventually, but I'm living in the present.:D

the point of the tag was to prevent any other teams to contact him. he is saints property, they will have to eventually give in, it is just that he is holding them hostage. I'm sure the FO was hoping they wouldnt have to give him almost 20% of their salary cap but that's evidently what it will take.

I see what you mean...I guess the next question is does he sign it? Considering they were already 5M apart and couldn't close the deal, where do they go from here? Obviously Brees won't play for 16M this season. Just seems like a convoluted mess at this point, but if Brees eventually gets his way this seems like a dumb route for NO to take to get there.
