Denial

Obviously a good amount are. It's not like they are all in agreement with that way of thinking though. Good amount are arguing with the "wait and see" people.

Honestly, I don't stick up for Saints that often. This is coming from the guy that said a couple weeks ago that Brees was fake class. Have to give some of them credit.

Seems to me that having to place the Franchise Tag on Brees is the worst scenario for the ownership. How could that possibly be a better option than biting the bullet and giving him that last big contract?...unless they simply aren't interested in having him retire a Saint.

So people are surprised that the Saints are cheap?

Anyone remember when the HC had to volunteer to take a pay cut so they would hire a decent DC?

They may have won a SB, but they're still a 2nd rate franchise and the window has almost closed.

Speaking of denial, Saints fans are totally in denial about the fact the Benson was ready to pack up and move that team to San Antonio before Katrina hit...

Yup, tagging him will be a fail... these guys are proud and tagging them under these circumstances tells them you don't think they're worth what they feel they're owed. Brees almost single-handily lifted them out of a pit of 40 years of failure and delivered a Lombardi trophy and they're low-balling him?

Brees will play under the tag, but he won't be happy about it and that sort of thing can erode a team. Brees is the unquestioned leader of that team and his teammates genuinely love him... they won't be happy about the Saints stiffing him.

So NFC south is looking strong.....

Atlanta can't get out of the first round of the playoffs and banked on last year with trading up, won't be great for their future, no first round draft pick this year...

Saints low ball their star Qb, if they franchise him they lose one of the best guards and maybe one of there best WR. no first round draft pick this year....good luck running that same offense with Chase Daniel.

Tampa bay is Tampa bay....decent to good Qb in josh freeman, a college head coach that has butch Davis as his assistant for defense.....Butch Davis......Butch.......Davis.....they have one corner who's twin brother is retired, and another one who can't stay out of trouble. Decent young d line that will grow, but other than freeman who is their big play makers?

And yet some people will be surprised when we take the division back over in 2-3 years.

If Brees isn't gone this year, he'll be gone after they tag him. Either way, all the "Saints fans" (in quotations for the bandwagon fans that jumped on after Brees got there) will soon disown them, and the REAL 'Aints fans will be back to brown bagging it. Maybe they'll decorate them all very nicely this time around.
