New Orleans Saints guard Carl Nicks said he would love to stay in New Orleans next season, but he remains unsure whether the team will be able to re-sign him along with fellow free agents Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Tracy Porter and others. Nicks said it's "disheartening" that the Saints haven't made a strong push to re-sign him yet.

Saints guard Carl Nicks said it's "disheartening" that the Saints haven't made a strong push to re-sign him yet.

"They never talked to me at all about it really (last season), which I thought was kind of weird. But I talked to (General Manager Mickey Loomis) the last day before exit meetings, and he said they were going to do their best to try to keep me. So that's the gist of contract talks," said Nicks, who is expected to command a salary of more than $8 million per year as one of the NFL's marquee free agents.

"I would love to stay, but it's also a good feeling to be wanted. So hopefully a lot of teams want me, but I would love to stay," said Nicks.

Wrong.

That system makes him a super star.

Your the one that is wrong. The offense comes and goes with Brees. Take him out of the equation and you have yourself an avg offense.

brees is the system. he and payton work together in planning that thing around what he does. it's a spread offense built around brees.

Could not have said it better myself.

the scheme, game planning, and play design are all part of a collaborative effort between payton and brees. it's pretty well known that those two work together on everything in dealing with that offense. it's pretty much an ideal situation and relationship there.

now tom brady you could consider the ultimate system QB as he is the perfect QB for that system. it's one that can work with matt cassell, but works pretty much perfectly with brady.

manning with the colts was a situation where the QB was the offense because he was essentially the colts OC. that is pretty much why they are more than likely going to be drafting luck because he's someone that can step in and do pretty much the same thing, or will be able to eventually.

Payton is the one QB to me that could probably run any system. Drew makes some great throws and they work very well together, but the majority of their offense comes from throws within 10 yards of the LOS, but because of how they do it, the receivers do damage after the catch. Sproles gets about 3 or 4 screens to him every game plus Thomas is good at that too. Put Brees in a more conventional system, I personally don't believe he would be as good but it's hard to say for sure.

spread is going to be the more conventional one or at least the more used offense in the very near future in part because of what teams like the saints and pats are doing and because most of the talent in the league is coming from spread offenses. the so called "pro-style" offense is quickly becoming antiquated and the true style used by the pros will be the spread.

agreed about peyton. same is true about luck. they are scheme diverse. they can make any system work well. guys like RG3 and newton are the type of talents that should have a system built around their strengths and if that is done (which it is with newton) they will be among the elite in the league.
