My First Mock w/ Trade

Except for Coples, the rest will be there about 10 picks later, so why trade three picks for a 4-3 DE in Coples when they run primarily a 3-4? Heck, Kirkpatrick might even fall to them at 27.

Sorry, just not a likely scenario. Fun to have fantasies about draft day though.

They are actually really strange, they change from a 4-3 to 3-4 and back a lot of times during the games. Coples would be a great 4-3 edge rusher, and a very solid 3-4 end. Btw at lot of mocks I have seen Ingram going around 10-12, with Jenkins and/or Kirkpatrick(now that his possession charge has been dropped) going before 15. Even if the are going to switch to primarily a 3-4, then it would make sense for them to trade up for Courtney Upshaw, who usually goes in mocks around 10-15.

Pats almost never trade up.

It's about time for them to change up their strategy. Before this year, they lost every playoff game since the 2007-2008 run. They have lost two superbowls in recent years, and as someone already said, Brady is getting older. When I really think about it, trading up wouldn't seem too far-fetched for the Patriots.

Yeh, thats pretty much what I had said before. Pats need guys who will make an impact now, not a few years from now which is likely the time frame it would take for a late first round pick to make an impact. Tom Brady is 34, they have a decent amount of starters on the wrong side of 30. Their window is closing, the might realistically only have about 3-4 years left to win another superbowl. They need guys who can come straight into the system and perform.

Don't get me wrong, I would jump all over this trade. Just don't think it likely.

By the time we got to the bottom of the round, maybe someone would want to trade back into the first and we could change from a team who constantly gives up picks to one who collects.

Yeh, I would like to parlay one of those 1sts into 2 more picks honestly. Like give up 27 to the Seahawks for 43/75. I thought about adding this trade in when i first made it, but as unlikely as it is that we will trade down, 2 trade downs is less likely. Grab Vinny Curry at 43, and a DT or OL Depth at 75. I really wouldn't be opposed to trading one of those second's for a next years first either.

Whatever happened to the NT from Washington that everybody liked? I don't ever see him on anyone's boards anymore?

I think you mean Alameda Ta'amu. When i first mentioned this second trade, he would be one of the guys I would look at with the 75th pick. But if we went DT there, I would rather have Crick TBH.

3rd or 4th rounder at best

Too big and slow to play in a 43 and not strong enough to play NT in a 34

Maybe combine will help him

Roughly put this together

Trade:

Panthers Receive:

Round 1 Pick 27

Round 1 Pick 31

Round 3 Pick 94

Patriots Receive:

Round 1 Pick 8/9

(Based on the Value Chart, its 1400/1350 from us, 1404 from the Pats)

Panthers Draft:

Round 1 Pick 27th OVR: Whitney Mercilus DE Illinois

Round 1 Pick 31st OVR: Zack Brown OLB UNC

Round 2 Pick 40th OVR: Stephen Gilmore CB USC

Round 3 Pick 94th OVR: Markelle Martin S OSU

Round 4 Pick 104th OVR: Chris Rainey RB/KR/PR/ST Florida

Round 5 Pick 137th OVR: Mitchell Schwartz OT Cal

Round 6 Pick 163rd OVR: Patrick Edwards WR Houston

And the consensus 7th Rounder among all Panthers fans:

Round 7 Pick 198th OVR: Drew Butler P Georgia

Before you all beat me up about not taking at DT at any point in the draft, I think the last thing we need is more youth at the DT position. Get Edwards back, and maybe bring in one more rotation guy and I think we will be fine, not great, but fine at DT.

Well there goes my first foray into mock drafts, lemme know what you guys think.

Best mock i've seen.

i've tried looking at several scenarios with this trade and it really puts us in a tough spot even though we pick up a couple well needed picks.

there's quite a bit of 1st/2nd rounders that fit in pretty well there, but it's tough figuring which could fall that far.

if we pick up antonio garay it would take some of the pressure off needing to draft a DT (although i'd still like to because i really like this class).

a pretty ideal(imo) mock using those picks

1a melvin ingram

1b janoris jenkins

2 lavonte david

3) mitchell schwartz

4) amini silatolu (yes, another OL but this guy is nasty mean)

5) chris rainey (might need to switch 3,4,and 5 around some)

6) devin wylie (blazing fast WR with good hands, smart route runner, and very good PR guy)

7) i don't know...punter? BPA? whatever....

a less ideal but still attractive one to me (again including us picking up garay)

1a) zach brown

1b) jared crick

2) leonard johnson

3-7 same as above

if we substitute a DT for an OLB in those two above scenarios i would look at tyler nielsen late (6th or 7th) just to help with pass coverage against TEs.

I would love to get Ingram and Jenkins with those picks, but the odds of just one of them falling that far, not to mention 2 of them is astronomical. Ingram will be gone by 20, and Jenkins could very well be the second corner off the board after combine(I think he will overperform, kirkpatrick will underperform). I like lavonte david a lot, but I thought he played at a weight much closer to 205, than 225. I think crick wont go till late 2nd round at the earliest, and rainey wont be there in the 5th, im not even 100% sure he will be there in the 4th where I took him in my mock. It would be awesome if we could get all those dudes, but we would have to have a ton of luck for all those players to drop.

i agree. i think in those mocks that had them falling had 3 QBs and 4 OL, and 4 WRs in the top 20 picks so a lot of people fell. jenkins was the 3rd CB and had a FS ahead of him. i think there was also another RB besides richardson taken.

it all depends on how things fall.

it's a lot easier to guess which guys are going to be there at the 8/9 pick than 27th and 31st. waaaayyyy too many possible scenarios.
