Roughly put this together

Trade:

Panthers Receive:

Round 1 Pick 27

Round 1 Pick 31

Round 3 Pick 94

Patriots Receive:

Round 1 Pick 8/9

(Based on the Value Chart, its 1400/1350 from us, 1404 from the Pats)

Panthers Draft:

Round 1 Pick 27th OVR: Whitney Mercilus DE Illinois

Round 1 Pick 31st OVR: Zack Brown OLB UNC

Round 2 Pick 40th OVR: Stephen Gilmore CB USC

Round 3 Pick 94th OVR: Markelle Martin S OSU

Round 4 Pick 104th OVR: Chris Rainey RB/KR/PR/ST Florida

Round 5 Pick 137th OVR: Mitchell Schwartz OT Cal

Round 6 Pick 163rd OVR: Patrick Edwards WR Houston

And the consensus 7th Rounder among all Panthers fans:

Round 7 Pick 198th OVR: Drew Butler P Georgia

Before you all beat me up about not taking at DT at any point in the draft, I think the last thing we need is more youth at the DT position. Get Edwards back, and maybe bring in one more rotation guy and I think we will be fine, not great, but fine at DT.

Well there goes my first foray into mock drafts, lemme know what you guys think.

Great draft..doubt we get those picks. Also Schwartz is skyrocketing up the boards. So doubt he's there that late. I would be very happy with this though

Yeh I thought about that for a bit, but the Patriots are at a point where late first round picks arent going have a quick enough impact to make the best use of Brady's few years left. I could see them move up for an instant impact player like Coples, Ingram, Jenkins, Kirkpatrick, Blackmon, maybe even Trent Richardson if he is still there.

I like the whole thing except Mercilus. I wouldn't HATE that pick, but that late we could probably get Cox or Poe or possibly even Still or someone else. I know you said you don't want another young DT, but I disagree with that. DT is an oft-injured spot anyway and McClain and Fua look like backup rotation material (even considering they were rookies), not long term answers. Neblett, Kearse and Shirley could be long term answers, but I'm not sold any of them will ever be elite like Brockers, Still, Poe or even Cox could possibly be.

Even if we didn't go the DT route, we could possibly get Jenkins or Kirkpatrick there and I'd rather one of them and then Brandon Thompson or Chandler Jones or Mercilus will probably still be on the board with our 2nd round pick.

ditto. I think after Super Bowl, Patriots may be willing to move in the other direction this year with window possibly closing soon.

In the next 2 months, after combine, etc, someone that we are all in love with in the top ten now, will be available at 27. We need multiple picks for depth and contributors.

The trade makes sense in my head, but I don't see it happening. Even so, this draft would be a tremendous haul for the Panthers. I agree that we'll be fine @ DT. I think Fua actually has some serious potential if he can bulk up and improve on the technical aspects of his game. We had two rookies starting for the majority of the season - that has to be great for their growth. With Edwards coming back - we really only need depth at the position. The secondary, defensive ends and offensive line need to be the focus - and I love the idea of grabbing a punter.

Jenkins or Kirkpatrick will both be gone by pick 20, no way either would make it to 27. I wasn't a massive fan of much of anyone at 27 tbh, but I didn't want to include another trade. I had the idea of trading the 27th to the seahawks for their 2nd and 3rd rounders(43/75), drafting Vinny Curry at 43, and the option of either DT's Crick or Ta'amu, or G's Brandon Washington(Miami)/Kevin Zeitler(Wisconsin).

Except for Coples, the rest will be there about 10 picks later, so why trade three picks for a 4-3 DE in Coples when they run primarily a 3-4? Heck, Kirkpatrick might even fall to them at 27.

Sorry, just not a likely scenario. Fun to have fantasies about draft day though.
