Simple and Plain Mock Draft

We get into trouble when we start saying HAVE to do this or that with picks.. thats not how its going to be. We're getting the BPA at our spot regardless of position... I see it being one of the OT's or DL... Decastro is a sleeper. Dre Kirkpatrick could also be a sleeper.

ignoring need because of some supposed BPA ranking regardless of position is how you get into trouble.

if, for example, trent richardson or RG3 are the BPA when we pick and we take them we are morons.

you take the BPA according to positions of need, preferably weighted according to priority.

blindly jumping on whatever BPA is there is what gets you jimmy clausen on the roster.

My main hope is that our first pick is spent on the D-line. If not, at least our 2nd pick. This was my preference long before the Super Bowl, but NY's success just confirms it to me. A strong D-line > a strong secondary. I think if we could just get one elite guy in the middle, the rest of our D-line will suffice. In the secondary we just need a starting caliber CB and FS and it's good. They don't need to be elite, just solid and we're good to go.

I am ok with Coples in the first but no DT. Its just not that important to have dominant DT in 4-3 scheme. Only once in the last 10 years(probably longer) has a team (Tampa in 03) with a 4-3 defense won the superbowl with a dominant DT (Sapp).

But in addition they also had Rhonde Barber and Brian kelly had a great year as well at CB. Also had Lynch in his prime and Simeon Rice a dominant DE.

I think good cover corners allow high motor pass rushers more time to get to the qb and I think elite pass rushers limit the amount of time cb's have to cover. They are both important and help the others cause.

The best qb's in the game are known for their quick release and ability to get rid of the ball as fast as possible. Two ways to make that harder on them is to put pressure on them and cover up their primary targets.

Theres a reason CB'S AND DE'S are the highest paid players on defense.

EDIT:meant to put superbowl qualifer in there originally

Us with Kris Jenkins, Minnisota with the Williams wall are two quick examples off the top of my head.

And in both those cases, the defensive line was dominant and led to very successful teams. Both cases had 1 dominant DE (Peppers and Allen) and we already potentially have that (if not QUITE at the same level of dominance) in Johnson if we can just get some HIGH quality DTs, not just stopgaps and mid to late round picks.

I never said Miami would be the ones to take him, just that he would be off the board by then. oh and heres a blast from the past (you on last yours draft)

It all seriousness that had a lot to do with the fact i wanted luck.

And after he didn't declare i wanted Green.

I dont remember the Vikings going to the superbowl in the last 10 years or us Winning the superbowl.

Even if we did I think Peppers,Rucker, and Al wallace were more integral than Jenkins, Buckner and Carstens.

edit: I never put the superbowl qualifier in there, my bad but the point still remains

Well if you want to put a Super Bowl qualifier in there, the Giants didn't have any decent cover corners for either of their SB victories, the Saints corners for their victory were no better than ours, the Colts corners were atrocious, the Steelers corners were no better than ours (if not worse), the SB winning Patriots corners were no better than ours. The only Super Bowl winning team in recent history that I can remember that had noticeably better corners than us was Green Bay. You know what most of those teams did have? Dominant DLs. The Colts and Saints excluded.

I disagree. The single player that was most integral was probably Peppers, but as a whole unit I'd say it was the latter.

    • Saints and Seahawks both making a push for Cooper Kupp The Rams receiver has at least two teams that are very interested in signing him. According to The Athletic, the Seahawks and Saints are both making a push to sign Kupp. The Seahawks could certainly use another receiver after trading DK Metcalf and cutting Tyler Lockett. As for the Saints, they don't have a ton of salary cap space, so it will be interesting to see if they can meet Kupp's asking price, which is apparently around $13 million or $14 million per year.
    • The intent behind the question wasn’t bad, it’s just how he framed the question was kinda goofy. I’m surprised people like him can do media professionally when they aren’t good public speakers. I wonder what he gets paid to do this.
    • Running back Kareem Hunt is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year contract worth up to $2.5 million, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Friday.   He returns to a backfield led by Isiah Pacheco that also added former San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell this week.   Hunt, 29, joined the Chiefs for his second tour with the team early in the 2024 season after they placed Isiah Pacheco on the injured reserve list. Hunt led the Chiefs in rushing with 728 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns in three postseason games.
