Kurb Mock 3.0

We'll call this "Trying to predict a trade mock" I'm going to try and predict a couple trades and some FA moves, which is really just virtual masturbation with draft stuff.

I want to add these tiny bits of info first.

Free Agent signing DT "HelloKitty" Garay from San Diego. I think he is a Rivera guy. We'll see. This could really improve the DT spot, allow the Fua/McClain connection more time to grow, and generally make the world a better place. It also opens up tons of draft options.

On to the draft.

I am a big fan of trading back this year. For a couple reasons. 1) We could use the bodies/talent all over the defense. 2) at 8/9 the Super Impact guys could very well be gone. 3) Im always a fan of trading back vs trading up.

With that said....

The Trade. In 2007 we did a pretty good trade back with the JETS Linky They moved 11 spots and sent us 1st , 2nd and 5th. One could argue that draft picks are more valuable now than they were then. But for the sake of this Mock draft I'm going to use that as a template.

So lets trade with the Bengals this time (b/c all the kids are doing it) JETS could want to trade up as well for a 3-4 DE (brockers could do this disturbingly well) or a Right Tackle .

Bengals send 1st, 2nd, 5th to Carolina we send them our 1st and fug I dunno a 6th.

This would give us a 1st (17), Two 2nds, 4th, Two 5ths, and 7th round pick. and Im guessing a couple 6th's/7th's for Comp picks (King/Marshall/etc)

Round 1: Dre Kirkpatrick CB Bama

http://www.kffl.com/a.php/129725/160

I have not been a big Kirkpatrick guy for awhile now. Alas, my moods and opinions change with more info. To me Kirkpatrick is similar to Gamble, perhaps a bit more athletic. I like him a lot more at 17 than I did at 8/9. Cant deny the level of athlete he has had success against as well.

Round 2: Vinny Curry DE Marshall

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1695468/vinny-curry

High motor, good production, Solid all around. Some rumors he could be snagged by the Titans in the first are troublesome, if so add any DE prospect you wish here.

Round 2: Markelle Martin, FS Oklahoma State

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1619949/markelle-martin

Sherrod Martin needs to be pushed for his job. I still think the guy can play, but something needs to push him. Markelle Martin has been know as a gamer, I can dig that. I believe he could beat out Sherrod for a starting spot.

Round 4: Chris Rainey Rb/Kr/Pr/St'er///////////

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1273191/chris-rainey

yes in the 4th I'm thinking more and more that a dedicated ST return/beast guy. Its a huge weak spot on this team.

Round 5: Tyler Nielsen, OLB

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1243706/tyler-nielsen

Stole this one from some others here. While I dont want an early LB pick, these late guys who are solid athletes and ready to be coached up fill a couple of needs. Depth and Solid Special Team Additions.

Round 5: Nate Potter OT Boise State

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1274379/nate-potter

He needs to gain some muscle mass and get coached up. But kid is versatile and has played some Guard. I like project O-lineman in this area of the draft.

Round 7 Drew Butler P Georgia

he punts

Good effort with the crystal ball we all know as the offseason.

There are a couple of "ifs" for me, not saying they are wrong, but I have heard the Kirkpatrick might have to go to safety at the next level

Curry has gained a lot of weight at the end of the season but is normally quite a bit lighter.

No issues after that. Agree with the Nielson kid. He is headed to the combine and cannot wait to see if he checks out.

Now that Dre Kirk's possession charge has been dropped, I think he will be back up the boards, he wouldnt be there at 21. I would like janoris jenkins at that pick, however after the combine its likely he will be rated the same or better as dre kirk. I would perfer Dline, OLB or OL at 21 if we had that pick. The draft is so deep with CB's, Dennard, Gilmore, Boykin, Minnifield, and Hosley would all be good picks with either of the second round picks. Wouldnt mind OLB Zack Brown, OG Cordy Glenn, RT Mike Adams, DE Whitney Mercilus or even NT Dontari Poe(But only if RR really plans on converting to a 3-4). And if he does want to transition to a 3-4, the Curry is a must with our first pick of the second round.

Will pretty it up with pictures for those of you who cant read and bolding of words to make it look more important.
thanks. i refuse to put any effort into reading something that doesn't look pretty and important.

i'll come back later after you've fixed this and tell you that if we pick up garay i'm fine with missing out on brockers and that i'd be fine with kirkpatrick (even though i like jenks better), that vinny curry and and martin would be awesome in the 2nd. i'll probably also tell you that i love chris rainey to help with special teams and think he adds a huge weapon on offense and i'm a big fan of nielsen, esp. in coverage handling big TEs.

you'll just have to wait on that until you fix that crap, though.

Does it bother anyone that Curry is listed and played in the 240-245 lb range at Marshall? Everyone was afraid that he would be too light to play DE in pros but he showed up at 265 lbs at Senior Bowl. Question is, will he be able to perform at the same high level after adding 25?

    • I mean it's not even like this was his worst game of the season... I'm not done with him by any means but this feels more the norm for him than the exception:/
    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
