Ivan's Pre-combine/Pro-day Draft.

I want a true OLB or DE, not real interested in tweeners.

Same. Upgrading the pass rush by spending our 1st pick on a DE is all fine and well I guess (although I believe it'll be upgraded as much by adding a dominant DT) IF there's a good 4-3 DEFENSIVE END available to take. Players like Applewhite and Kaiser are fine for depth and rotation purposes, but I want starters that are dominant at their spot, not ok at two. If Mercilus can prove he'd be as dominant as a 4-3 DE as he was in college then I'd be fine with picking him. But "speed rush" undersized DEs don't often fare well as 4-3 DEs in the pros.

Yea, 265 is undersized for a DE. 270 plus is the baseline standard. Almost every *good* 4-3 DE is 270 plus, only exceptions I can think of are Freeny and Mathis.

Succeeding at 6'4 265 is certainly possible, but it's just an extra hurdle for a player to overcome. Combined with the fact he's a speed rusher that only performed for 1 year, those are ingredients for a bust.

thats not undersized, if he is really 265. Tuck, Osi, Babin, Avril, Abraham just name a few are all DEs that are from 250-269 range that have had success in a 4-3. plus after joining a team he will bulk up.
