Wrong. The NFL is contributing $250 million or so to SF to assist with the building of their new stadium.

^ That is a great point. I think the NFL understands that you can't get blood from a turnip and most cities are not givng to give owners much as far as tax dollars. Having said that, I think some of the people raising hell about "not one penny of my hard earned tax dollars!" do not understand the upside of having an NFL team in Charlotte, and the revenue it generates; Hotels, bars, restaurants, parking, retail (gas for cars to get to and from games), sports merchandise- Cam jerseys- a could go on

That's an issue I have. Like Scrum said...if it's city infrastructure and we can get Goodell to put a Super Bowl here I'll back it. The investment would pay for itself.

Obviously you do not understand branding, there is no way they will use anything with the old logo next season. When a team makes a decision to change a logo name ect you can not second guess it and/or promote an outdated image.

Its a cost that they of course took into account when they made this decision and I'm sure some of the stuff may end up on a plane to Africa with all the Patriots super bowl gear.

When you're "re-branding" you don't want the old association still there lingering on. Regardless of how minor the changes to the new logo is I'm 99% sure it went through multiple draft and revisions, they probably brought in focus groups to test it and get it how they wanted it exactly. They won't just up and throw away all the beer cups and stuff and will probably donate them to a group home or someone else that can use them, but they won't be at the stadium next year. Its a new logo all around and the old one is gone that's how this stuff work.

Also does anybody remember what Uptown Charlotte looked like before Ericsson Stadium opened in 1996? Charlotte would not be the city that it is if it wasn't for the Panthers. The city didn't pay a dime for a stadium that brought so much to the community. I doubt the Big Cat will ask for assistance but if he does I'm sure it will be a sh*t storm because of all the crap that got pulled with the Bobcats arena. But the two in my mind can't be compared.

Downtown Charlotte benefitted from an economic and population boom. People moved to Charlotte and to the downtown area for the jobs, not becuase of a football team to stadium.

Richarson and his business partners can afford to pay for improving their own property and asking or expecting otherwise is absurd IMO.

If you don't think that Charlotte has benefitted greatly from the presense of the Panthers, then you have absolutely no idea how these things work.

Just on game days: 70,000 people have to pay for parking (taxable money), they buy food both inside and outside the stadium (taxable money), hotels see an increase in occupancy rate (taxable money), bars see an increase in alcohol/food sales (taxable money), etc.

Not to mention the 53+ players and coaches and high level front office personnel that live here and make $400,000+ per season and the expensive homes and cars they buy, plus the countless number of other jobs the team provides for the community,the merchandise the team sales yearly and the free publicity the city receives the 10 games they play in Charlotte every year.

Charlotte has gotten its fair share of revenue from our team and its fans. If we did invest money in the panthers it would be the first time in a long time the government did something with my money that I approve of.

Richardson and the other owners are the ones who developed those areas, built those hotels and opened those restaurants. They are benifitting from their own invenstments which is the way it is supposed to be.

They don't need city money, that is the beauty of it. Why provide them with something they don't need when their are other areas that need the funds and don't have the capital?

What restaurants not named Bojangles does Jerry own? Hotels? Even if this is the case, they provide hundreds, if not thousands of jobs for the people of Charlottle.

But even if that is the case, the big picture of it is not that it is making a few individual owners rich, it is the tax money the city itself is collecting off of every drink sale or hotel room rental. This is money the city wouldn't be collecting if Jerry didn't build the stadium and bring the team to the city.

^ I agree.....our schools are a mess, and at this point in my life I will stand up and say, that throwing more money at them will not help....at some point a kid has to want to learn, and a parent has to be a parent...sorry about the hijack...Go Panthers.

Yep. The NC school system is like wives. Don't matter how much money you bring home, there is always money problems. Remember the "education" lottery. Best way to straighten of the school "problem" is fire the top dog first (with no replacement). Problem still not solved, repeat. Keep repeating the process until the problem is solved and the money's right. This will work for almost all government operations.

You might have been to young to remember this, but NO PSL=NO NFL football in Charlotte. I payed and you should have to pay too.

You can always go to Atlanta and buy season tickets to see the Falcons with out buying a PSL.

You actually don't think Charlotte benefits from the Panthers seriously? Many people around NC an SC and all over the place come down to Charlotte so them play plus some spend the night in hotels etc, and eat at local restaurants. Also they host the ACC championship every year which also brings in thousands of people every year. Also Barack Obama is delivering his speech at the stadium, DNC made the pick to Charlotte because of the stadium!
