The Buccaneers have hired longtime college and NFL veteran coach Butch Davis to serve as the team’s senior assistant on defense, according to a report by Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com. A source told PewterReport.com that Davis had yet to sign a contract with the team, but appearances suggest that he is indeed close to joining Greg Schiano’s staff.

The hiring of Davis as a senior defensive assistant is a curious one due to the fact that the Bucs have yet to settle on a defensive coordinator. University of Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn reportedly turned down the chance to be Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator earlier in the week.

read the article at the link there and saw this paragraph...

Giants coach Tom Coughlin did not have to let Sullivan interview for the coordinator job, but it appears permission has been grant Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, for instance, blocked John McNulty from talking to Schiano.
