Salary Cap Situation

It's pretty depressing to see where Falcons are at the cap, and where we are. Smh.

The Falcons have major OL/DL depth issues that they now aren't going to be able to address as readily/cheaply thanks to the trade for Julio Jones. They only have five picks and no first or fourth.

It also doesn't help that they're looking at Abraham, Lofton, Biermann, DeCoud, Grimes, McClure, and their 2010 Pro Bowl/All Pro returner Eric Weems as possible UFAs going into 2012 as well. That cap figure is either going to be way different or their team is going to be way pootier entering next season.

Love the "hurney sucks" stuff.

There is zero base for it.

He is very good at working the #ks to get the guys he wants.

I'm glad he spends the available money.

I'd be pissed if he didn't spend the money to bring as players to help the team. Ya can't have a team with all high paid all stars.

Many have be budget players.

There shouldn't be a lot of space left over every year.

You all do realize we will spend little to no money in FA this year. Esp if ticket prices aren't going up. Hurney already said we're building through draft this year. Someone would have to come at a really good price or really want to be a Panther.

I rest my case.

Maybe we can the 50% off sale at the store will help us sign Mario Williams tho.

I read a article saying if we cut TD, we will save 8 mil for cap money for 2012.

Thomas Davis, Panthers. We’re purely making educated guesses on Vilma, Smith, Abraham and the final guy on the list. But Davis’ departure from Carolina is more than an educated guess. Sadly, it’s a foregone conclusion.

The Panthers took a shot on Davis last summer when they signed him to a big contract extension after he had come back from two torn ACLs. Then, he went out and suffered the same injury for the third time early last season. That’s why the Panthers basically included an “out clause’’ when they gave Davis the new contract.

His deal calls for an $8 million option bonus on the second day of the league year. That’s not going to happen. The Panthers will release Davis because it’s the only move that makes economic sense. But he is well-liked by ownership, the front office and coaches, so it’s not impossible to see Davis ending up back with the Panthers at a much lower salary if he can’t land a nice deal somewhere else.

Espn NFC south blog.........

Didn't they write this contract up to protect us. Yes he got the big signing bonus but I'm pretty sure they won't cut him. They will restructure his deal to a minimum salary and I'm sure he wouldnt mind bc

He won't mind proving himself. Anyways I just hope we have enough money to sign a mid tier player who can make a difference. My dream come true would be FS griffin from The titans.

dumbass motherfvcking comment below

"We're only a couple years removed from the organization being put in a stranglehold by Julius Peppers for 2 years"

GotDAMN that's just plain ol' ******* stoopid!!

This forum gets worse and worse and worse.

Pep finished his contract, told everyone he would not play if they tagged him, the dumbasses tagged him anyway instead of tagging Gross and Jake Delhomme skipped out of town with a 12 million dollar check.

Hurney is NOT a master of the payroll by any stretch. And as far as cutting the "dead weight" (otah, Edwards, Jimmy the pick, etc). ANybody who has been around for more than since Newton was drafted will tell you that we don't lose interest in players until AFTER we have developed them. See Witherspoon and Muhammad.

    • Yeah we had multiple chances to tie up the game or take the lead. We have made some significant strides as a team shooting threes but this group absolutely needs to get more aggressive in the paint in crunch time if they want to be a playoff team. For all the praise of the group and Charles Lee being talked up as coach of the year that's just pitiful and unacceptable. Also adding even more insult to the loss. Apparently Embid is 21-1 against the Hornets.
    • I read that they don't like arms under 34", but I do not know.  I can say that I have followed OTs who were drafted and many get kicked inside.  Brady Christensen is one example. RTs seem to be more tolerant of shorter arms.  As much as it seems silly, there is a reason the short-armed prospects can't hack the outside.   For the 2026 NFL Draft, arm length is a critical talking point for offensive tackles, with 33 inches usually being the minimum threshold for teams. Notable top prospects include Monroe Freeling (34 3/4"), Blake Miller (34 1/4"), and Dametrious Crownover (35 3/8") having elite length, while Spencer Fano (32 1/8") is facing potential positional moves.  Top 2026 NFL Draft Tackle Arm Lengths (Combine Measurements) Monroe Freeling: 34 3/4" Blake Miller: 34 1/4" Dametrious Crownover: 35 3/8" Max Iheanachor: 33 7/8" Caleb Lomu: 33 3/8" Kadyn Proctor: 33 3/8" Francis Mauigoa: 33 1/4" Spencer Fano: 32 1/8" Markeel Bell: 36 3/8" Garrett DiGiorgio: 32 5/8" Trey Zuhn III: 32 1/2"  Key 2026 Measurements & Context The 33-inch Cutoff: Many teams consider 33 inches the minimum for NFL tackles, with sub-33 inch arms often leading to a move to guard. Spencer Fano's Case: Despite top-15 draft projections, Fano's 32 1/8" arms at the combine sparked debate about his long-term position, though he measured 32 7/8" at his pro day. High-Length Options: Markel Bell (36 3/8") is a standout for his length, while Dametrious Crownover (35 3/8") also boasts high-end measurements. Proctor's Perspective: Prospects like Kadyn Proctor acknowledge the talk but emphasize that elite film can overcome shorter measurements.  Olinemen I like late:  KY OT Farmer--has the arms but lacks the feet. will be a solid G imo. Parker II (Duke OT with sub 33 inch arms.  Smart with good feet--projects to center.  A smart, agile center is a nice thing. Zuhn III (Tex AM) is another T to C candidate. Of course, I think the Panthers will like traditional center Logan Jones (Iowa) because he is an experienced (50 starts) fit in a zone scheme.
    • He's apparently told the school that he was interested, hence why they are waiting.
