Salary Cap Situation

Hurney's got this. Besides, it's only for a year until the new TV revenue bumps the cap up significantly and we'll have plenty of room to extend Stewart, make a few moves, and eventually give Cam the monster deal he's surely going to get.

I thought the new TV money hit in 2014. Am I wrong?

Cutting Davis which counts 5.9 million toward the cap alone gets up below the 125 million cap. There are also guys who signed for injury purposes who we will get rid of before the cap deadline. The reason Smith has been talking about playing 4-5 years is because I suspect there may have been preliminary discussion about possibly extending him so we can get some cap relief this year.

There may also be a few people cut who are surprises. Whenever you get a new regime there is turnover as new coaches see the lineups and the potential of players differently.

Hurney the capoligist.

We're only a couple years removed from the organization being put in a stranglehold by Julius Peppers for 2 years. So desperate for cap space we had to extend Jake for millions. Let's hope Hurney pulls his head out of his ass and manages to free the space to sign a couple decent Free Agents while not releasing key players.

    • Some of you who are not sold on Canales are insane. His main purpose was to turn around Bryce Young’s career and he did that. Of all of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL draft, we were the team that was consistently showing the most fight week in and week out. Our players never quit on the season. The offense which he is responsible for took a huge step forward compared to last year, despite the lack of skill talent  that we have. It was our defense that was a mess. That’s one of my critiques on Canales. He should’ve gotten rid of Evero and hired his own DC that shares the same vision. But as a whole, I can’t see how people are not pleased with what Canales did with this team. I’d give him an 9/10
    • One of the first thoughts after the game yesterday was that JT was going to jump all over it. He's been more favorable about BY from the beginning, and so yesterday must've felt like Christmas.
    • Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day.  They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them.  I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
