Is Steve Smith a Hall of Famer right now?

Yep. That climb's just gonna get steeper.

Steve has a chance of passing Moss, Ward, Holt over the course of his career.

If he and Driver both mimic their seasons next year that they had this year, he will pass Driver next year.

You people are either underrating Smith or, the more likely scenario, overrating everyone else. Panther fans have this disease that I can't seem to figure out why-that everything outside of the Carolinas is better than whomever they pull for.

Unless he breaks some meaningful records, and wins a SB he will not be considered. And even then he probably needs the SB MVP.

Now that you have more and more QB's passing for 4K plus every season, and more and more 1K WR's out there the harder it will be.

To be considered for the HOF you have to be the best at your position for years on end, win a SB or two, or play for the Cowboys, Redskins, Steelers, or 49ers.....of which SS has done none of.

Newsflash: This benefits Smith as well, and statistically, he's in a really good position to take advantage of it.

He will not be a first or second or third or fourth ballot HOF nominee. Now think about the competition. Megatron, Wayne, Fitz, etc.....

We could go on and on.

Win the SB and the MVP and he has a chance....maybe. Don't do that, and IMO he has absolutely no shot what so ever.

Yup.

No way Hines Ward, or Randy Moss, or TO, or Torry Holt, or Chris Carter, or Marvin Harrison, or Donald Driver, would ever get consideration over SS.

You would even add Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald over...

Steve Smith Larry Fitzgerald Andre Johnson

Age 32 Age 28 Age 30

5 Pro Bowls 6 Pro Bowls 5 Pro Bowls

3 All Pro 4 All Pro 4 All Pro

699 Receptions 693 Receptions 704 Receptions

10,278 Yards 9,615 Yards 9,656 Yards

59 Receiving TDs 73 Receiving TDs 52 Receiving TDs

Those guys would leapfrog Smith while he "waits" to get inducted behind Moss, T.O., etc...

Extremely sad to say, but I just don't see Steve Smith getting in....

We like to call it realism.

"Chance of passing" doesn't equal "passing".

How you can think Smith will just slide into Canton when guys like Reed, Carter, Brown and others are still waiting years after they retired, guys like Harrison, Holt and others are coming eligible and guys like Tony Gonzalez and others set to retire in the same time frame, and again that just being receivers with greats at other spots likely retiring soon (Brady is 35) is just...wow :nonod:

NFL.com/history

Look there and you'll find the top five receivers of the last decade for receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs.

Smith's name isn't on a single one of those lists.

So tell me, how exactly does he get in over all those guys again?

Do you literally have no context? Or are you gonna randomly change your argument now that the previous one has been decimated?

I need to tell you something important Scot.

Smith's career isn't over yet

When you compare his stats to the Randy Moss' of the world, you have to project them over the course of the remainder of his career. Moss played in the 90's. Smith didn't.

Not all of you. Just those who look at Smith's career and can say with a straight face that his chances of making the Hall are no more than "slim."

He would absolutely have to get to 15K yards, 100 TD's or win two SB's.

I don't see how he could do the first two, and the thrid one no one can predict.....but I just can't see that happening.

Miss a sense of context much?

You're basing part of your argument on his stats surpassing guys already in the Hall of Fame. I pointed out he's not even in the top five in any major category in the past decade. Yet you still see him getting in ahead of the others.

And for all your arguments about the years to come, none of that has any guarantee. And even if he does play, he'll need some major accomplishments to get his name in the discussion.

If you seriously think Smith can get in easy while guys like Kevin Greene and Andre Reed - who do have major accomplishments on their resume' - have had to wait, you're dreaming.

Guys

Do the MATH!!

A WR on average is added to the Hall OF Fame ever 1.71 years!!

1-The H O F first class was 1963

2- Thats 48 years ago

3- There are 28 W R 's in the HOF that's one new WR ever 1.71 years

4- They are allowed to vote in 4-7 each year

5- With 10 position/owners/coaches/producers being voted on each year

Steve would have to leap ahead of Several WR's

That, plus someone from the voting media really has to make a case for him.

Don't see that happening.

Let me ask you something. Are you mentally deficient? Honest question. Do you struggle with basic mathematics?

Let me explain to you, as simplified for your simple mind as I can possibly do.

Andre Reed has 951 career receptions. Andre Reed played 16 years.

Steve Smith has 699 career receptions. Steve Smith has played 11 seasons.

That's a difference (that's what you get when you subtract two numbers) of 252.

*Gasp*

If Steve Smith plays as long as Reed plays-which he has publicly stated he would like to do- there is nothing to suggest he won't pass Reed. That's an average of 50 catches a year.

Now let me elaborate further- Steve Smith doesn't have to have 50 catches every year to pass 951. If he has 75 catches next year, he only needs 25 in a later year.

Andre Reed is tenth on the NFL's all time leading receptions list. Do you know what that means if Smith passes him?

Steve Smith is in the top ten (and, btw, Receptions isn't even Smith's strong stat-it's receiving yards)

Now let's evaluate the surrounding factors around Steve Smith?

Elite QB? Look that way.

Offense that favors him? Indeed.

Super Bowl ring? Got a chance.

Signature playoff moment? Done

Signature career moment? Finished

He has. A. Chance. A decent chance. That's the argument I'm making. To dispute it Grass-Is-Always-Greener-Mentality.

"But But But Cat'sGrowl! This is Andre Reed, it doesn't matter if he passes him! I loooved Reed so much when I was young!"

And oh yeah, Randy Moss has 954 career receptions. If he passes Reed-he's passing Moss.
