Is Steve Smith a Hall of Famer right now?

And, as it's been stated, Smith has certain advantages those players don't have (including other advantages that those others didn't have, including the likes of the information age and such things)

If Smitty reaches, and passes those others statistically, and acquires a ring-he becomes a more deserving candidate. I'm not sure where Panther fans get this mentality that the grass is always greener. That Andre Reed would be more deserving than Steve Smith simply because he didn't play for the Panthers.

Noone in this thread but the OP has said that Smith would get in now. What has been said, is that he has an opportunity. And he most certainly does.

If we we assume that Cam continues to progress, and this offense becomes more pass oriented-which is only logical to assume-then Smith's chances only grow.

Yeah sure.

It took Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Michael Irvin and Art Monk years to get in. Guys like Cris Carter, Andre Reed and Tim Brown still aren't there. And that's just at receiver, not even looking at the other positions.

But yeah, I'm sure Smitty will be there on the first ballot

Panthers Ring of Honor? Probably? NFL Hall of Fame? If the right things happen, somewhere down the road maybe.

Heck, I'm actually less optimistic of him getting in now than I was when this discussion started.

Angry poster is angry.

No need to lash out and call me entitled. My dad drove a propane truck and my mother works with special needs children.

I read the thread, but I didn't learn anything I didn't know before.

I agree everyone can have and share their opinion, but when someone disagrees, I don't call them stupid.

You went from arguing facts, to calling me stupid, misinformed, and entitled.

If you could present a counter argument to Mr. Scots and Panthros, I would be interested in reading it.

I've already made a couple posts now making very valid arguments. What i didn't do is make a three line post imbued with sarcasm, finish it with the suggestion my word is the ultimate say, and then get mad when people call me out for it.

That's my point.

Yup.

No way Hines Ward, or Randy Moss, or TO, or Torry Holt, or Chris Carter, or Marvin Harrison, or Donald Driver, would ever get consideration over SS.

Am I the only one on this board who takes time to read what's been said before making my sarcastic remark?
He's not close. But...

Hey add three triple crown seasons, a Super Bowl, a Super Bowl MVP, and saving a bus load of HoF voters in a scenario similar to the movie Speed and he has to be considered then amirite - Cat'sGrowl Logic

What? Smith has either already passed or is on pace to pass most every guy you listed. What point are you exactly trying to make? That he won't get in because he didn't play when you could watch him with youthful ambition? You didn't look up to him as a kid so that invalidates the fact that he's having a better career than most of the guys on that list?

He's already passed up some of them, and most played 15 or 16 years.

As it's been said-the longer he plays-the better chance he has.

Yep. That climb's just gonna get steeper.

Tony Gonzalez will be retiring soon too. And guys like Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson won't play forever, but they could easily retire pretty close to the same time Smith does.

Didn't you read his post???!?!?!?!

Smith caught a game winning touchdown in the playoffs.

And had one season where he was without question the best receiver.

Are you not readin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????

This has gotten sad.

Yep, just cause Smitty said he plans to play 5 more years means he is going to.

I bet Randy Moss thought he had 5 more years at the beginning of last season.

Oh yeah, I bet T.O. did too.

But, yeah. I am sure he will be an MVP candidate into his mid to late thirties.

NFL.com/history

Look there and you'll find the top five receivers of the last decade for receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs.

Smith's name isn't on a single one of those lists.

So tell me, how exactly does he get in over all those guys again?

Ah, yes. The sweet taste of victory. When you can't form a reasonable argument, try to undermine your opponent, a tactic the Huddle "elite" hast mastered perfectly.

Hold on, let me relish in my victory for a moment.

Unless he breaks some meaningful records, and wins a SB he will not be considered. And even then he probably needs the SB MVP.

Now that you have more and more QB's passing for 4K plus every season, and more and more 1K WR's out there the harder it will be.

To be considered for the HOF you have to be the best at your position for years on end, win a SB or two, or play for the Cowboys, Redskins, Steelers, or 49ers.....of which SS has done none of.

1-The H O F first class was 1963

2- Thats 48 years

3- There are 28 W R 's in the HOF that's one new WR ever 1.71 years

4- They are allowed to vote in 4-7 each year

5- With 10 position/owners/coaches/producers being voted on each year

Following is the current list of WR by STATS that may have a shot at the

H O F

Player RECP YDS TD Years

Steve Smith 699/ 10278/ 59/ 10

T O 1078/ 15934 / 153/ 15

Moss 954/ 14858/ 153 / 13

Harrison 1102/ 14580/ 128/ 13

Keyshawn 814/ 10571/ 64/ 11

Hines 1000/ 12083/ 85/ 14

Tim Brown 1094/ 14934/ 100/ 17

Cris Carter 1101/ 13899/ 130/ 16

Torry Holt 920/ 13382/ 74/ 12

Andre Johnson 706/ 9656/ 52/ 9

Reggie Wayne 862/ 11708/ 73/ 10

Fitz 693/ 9615/ 73/ 7

Megatron 366/ 5872/ 49/ 5

Greg Jennings 389/ 6171/ 49/ 6

Jimmy Smith 862/ 12287/ 69/ 13

Super Bowl wins along with Stats will give a WR a shot at the HOF

But 1 WR ever 1.71 years will not allow all the above to enter HOF

A lot of WR's in the HOF have a lot lower stats

But todays game uses the WR's more than the game from 60's-80's
