Two coaching gaffes inside last 2 minutes

I would have much rather scored the TD and made NE get one as well. Relying on a kicker to win the Super Bowl for you is not something I would have been comfortable with...given the two options.

So you would rather score the TD, give Brady the ball back with a minute left, or, kick a FG and give Brady the ball back with <20 seconds.

Dumb.

Second, Coughlin should have just had Eli take a knee and ended the game rather than risking giving the ball back up to NE by running the ball at the end.

Apparently, taking a knee puts points on the scoreboard....

Is this feature only available in the latest Madden or what?

I didn't know all fields goals are automatic. When did Kasay join the Giants?

If the Giants were TIED with the Patriots you have the luxury of kneeling at the 1 yard line. If you are losing you take the points. Make Brady win game with a TD. Not a FG. Big difference with less than 1 min left in the game. (Ex: See NY vs GB this year)

It was 2nd down, and the Pats know you are going to run the ball on 3rd to keep the clock running. Pats were getting some penetration so a TD from the 1 isn't a gimme.

Belichik in my opinion did the right thing at the right time. He shouldn't have tried to let them score at the two minute warning. If you have two timeouts left and hold them to a field goal you would likely only have to travel @40 yards to get a 55 yard game winning field goal attempt with no timeouts and about 1:00 left on the clock.

If you let them score on first and goal from the seven you would have had about 1:30 to go 80 yards with two timeouts.

40 yards with a whole field with no timeouts is easier than 80 yards including the short field if they get in the red zone.

The only point you may have is that he should have let them score on first and goal from the 7 and saved one timeout. Likely Bill wanted to give the defense a chance to get a turnover (Bradshaw had already fumbled once I believe) and if they didn't make a play on 1st and goal they were going to give up the score give Brady a chance with one timeout.

I don't think Bill made a gaffe I think he made a strategic decision in a tough situation that were long shots regardless of what he did.

Reason I blame Coughlin is that when he was at the seven, it was second down, Pats had only one timeout left. Why not take a knee rather than running it in, especially if he was wanting the RB to down it at the one. He would obviously have been playing for the field goal, so just let Manning take a knee, exhaust NE timeouts, run clock down to two seconds, kick FG from extra point range, and go home.

Why ever give Brady a chance to come back even with one minute?

Right calls on both sides. The only "mistake" was Bradshaw not realizing they were letting him waltz in and not being able to stop his momentum before he tipped over the goal line. It was obvious Coughlin's game plan was not to score right then, he coached it right. Bradshaw just didn't expect not to have to run hard to get them closer to the goal line.

Yes, brilliant. Because I would do the exact same thing one of the best NFL coaches in history would have done, I clearly know nothing about football.

So you say stop the Giants and get a turnover. So what's your plan? They're in extremely easy field goal range and you have 1 timeout left and under 2 minutes left. What's your plan to stopping them? Your only hope is to block the kick or strip the ball on a running play. Both are *extremely* low odds. Your other option is to put the ball in Brady's hands late in a Super Bowl where you've seen him get the job done before. Odds are still low, but let's stop playing patty cake here, they were much greater than Tynes botching an extra point length of a field goal or forcing a fumble.

I'm sorry... whose defense gave up a pass to midfield on first down? Dinking and dunking works great with 9 minutes left. When the game is winding down, you (should) know the other team wants to get downfield before they start playing the clock.

You make the stop. You win.

    • I mean it's not even like this was his worst game of the season... I'm not done with him by any means but this feels more the norm for him than the exception:/
    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
