What are your interest? If you like history with a bit of fiction thrown in, "The Killer Angels" is one of the best books ever written imo.

Deac, Ive had this book on the shelf for years. I've heard nothing but good things about it but I just cant start it for some reason. For some reason I keep thinking it will be boring. Can you tell me a little more about it?

Well, you might not like it if you are not into military history. But its the story of the battle of Gettysburg told from the perspective of several of the major participants on both sides. For the Confederates, its mostly Lee and Longstreet. For the Union, its mostly John Buford and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. It goes a lot into their motivations for fighting, their feelings about the war and the mounting casualties they are seeing on a daily basis. Its not the typical this regiment moves here and fights, and that regiment moves there. Its the feelings of Longstreet for example when he is arguing with Lee about attacking on the second day or his sense of impending doom on the third day when he is told to order Picketts charge. Or the feelings of Chamberlain when he wonders why the Southerners would fight so hard for such an unworthy cause (slavery).

All in all, I think its a fascinating insight into war and the motivations and feelings of those who fight in it.

i just went by a used book store today and ended up grabbing a slew of classic literature i've always meant to read but never got around to. dostoevsky, dickens, hardy, melville, and a few others.

I just read The Island of Dr. Moreau but didn't see what all the fuss was about.
