So much for Pep to Philly

I agree that there's nobody in the draft this year that the Panthers value more than Peppers. However, if Peppers refuses to sign a long term contract, I think we'd be willing to trade him for the right offer. We really can't afford to franchise him every year and getting a 1st rounder plus more is better than having Peppers for ONE season.

Looking at the DE class this year, I can definitely see a team that's looking to use their 1st on a DE trading for Peppers instead. My guess is that we will get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with either the 2nd or 3rd being in 2010.

As for Hurney's comments about keeping Peppers. He pretty much has to say that. If he states there is zero chance of Peppers returning, it drives his trade value down considerably.

Not sure about that when you're talking about a guy that's coming of a 14.5 sack season on a team that went 12-4. We could win it all this coming year and Peppers could be an integral part of that... so could the draft picks we would get for trading him, but since none of those guys have played a snap in the NFL Peppers is the better bet.

I'd much rather keep Peppers this year, trade him for a 1st rounder next year and then package our 2 1st round picks to move way up the draft order and take the best young QB we can get...

Derion Gannt (sp?) thinks that since Pep didn't sign the offer that Hurney presented to him that would have made him the highest paid defensive player in the league, that Pep will sit out this year until the very last minute, only to collect his paycheck and become a FA next year.

*stirs pot and gets out of the way*

More proof that Gross' contract is a deal for us.

Had Gross hit FA, his contract would have been way more than what we gave him.... There are not too many probowl LT's that hit FA in the prime of their career. As a side note, weren't the Eagles better off using that pick to get Otah then Peters? Otah is solid, younger and much cheaper then what Peters will be getting paid.
