Kindle Fire

Anybody have one of these? I'm thinking about getting one. I haven't really been interested in getting a tablet like the Ipad...too expensive IMO. But this thing is only $199. Seems like a great deal.

If you have one, how is it? Can you read easily outside? Like on the beach for example. I've heard the other Kindles are great for outdoor reading, not sure about this one though.

You cant read the fire outside, the sunlight washes it out. I wanted one, but I'd mainly use it for reading. Just reading one in the store for more than a few minutes hurt my eyes (backlit). I got a gen 3 kindle with keypad instead.

Look at the Nook Color, too.

I don't know...I think the Kindle Fire has better multimedia options. 90% of the time i'll probably be reading books but Amazon has a great selection of movies, music, and TV shows.

Here's the difference, you can root a Nook and it just because a rooted Android tablet. You can't do that with a Kindle Fire.

The Fire is probably fine for normal users. I didn't like it (my nephew has one) in terms of how restrictive it is, and the browsing (Silk browser goes through their servers first, etc) was slow for me. Perhaps the kinks are out by now. Not having a SD Card for increased storage was a fail.

The nook may be solid if rooted, but I think you only get 1gb of space to do what YOU want, the rest is for buys.

I myself have a Toshiba Thrive, with SD card slot, usb, and HDMI out, and I've loved it.

Asus is dropping a $250 quad-core tablet within the year, and also the Novo Elf 7 is like $150, it's made in china but has very comparable hardware to the rest, and have Ice Cream Sandwich on it (plus, $150?).

All of these are way cheaper than the Ipad, which I believe is a big rip. In the coming year or two, most tablets minus Apple's will be very affordable.

I got my girlfriend a Fire for Christmas and she loves it--she uses it for reading inside and browsing Facebook/Pinterest and hardly anything else. I couldn't ever part with my iPad 2, but Fire is a decent enough little gadget and the price is just killer for what you get.

the expansion cards for nooks are dirt fuging cheap like 4gb for 10$ or some poo

Regular SD cards, anywhere on the net, are like $13 for 16gb the last few weeks.

Fire doesn't have this option, huge reason why I lost interest in it.

If people can wait, the ASUS $250 will be the best bet anywhere, with hardware that is way better than anything on the market.
