At First Glance There Are 11 Holes On This Team

I don't see even 8 holes, more like 4 or 5 at most. We already have the DTs we will go into the year with. Yep I know folks hate that, but it is true. We could draft a DT but they won't start right away most likely. We will likely draft a DE but not bring one in because we can't afford a premier pass rusher. We might bring in a guy like we did with Tyler Brayton to shore up the run game on first and second down and use Hardy as a pass rusher. We will likely bring in a free agent linebacker as they are cheaper than DE or corner for example. We likely bring in either a FS in free agency but not one high priced. People still expect Hogan to start this year. We will likely draft a CB and safety in the draft as well as a linebacker.

On offense we won't bring in any high priced free agents but might bring in a handgartner or similar guy. We will probably use some middle or late rounds in the draft on offense.

I think we go with Mare because he is paid for and we might find a guy to punt but it won't be a big contract.

The idea that we are going to turn over this roster is in direct opposition to the fact we have 20 out of 22 starters already signed and won't be adding that many guys to the roster.

Your right on the money man. FA and injury comebacks will shape the draft. If Otah and TD are written off by our rehab staff then OLB and RT will be on the agenda. Since Dan Connor and Sherrod Martin are FA's and may not be resigned ( for Dan to get his starting shot and Sherrod because of job performance) then Safety will be looked at as well. I will be shocked if Schwartz and his little brother are not on the team next year. Edwards, Fua, Kearse, Neblett and McClain are likely our DT rotation next year and those drooling over a Brockers or Still are reaching in a weak DT class.

I'd rather they bring in another Ron Edwards type than go DT in this draft.

Antoinio Garay would be awesome to bring in. Him and Edwards would be a solid nose guard rotation and allow Fua to come along slowly. That would also open up that first pick to a slipping RT prospect like Jonathon Martin or Riley Rieff ( a guy can hope) don't trust Otah anymore.

If we get killed by injuries again then were just screwed. Assuming that does not happen this year our only major holes that require immediate attention are as Follows.

# 2 Corner

# DE, I think we need a new starter here. I like Hardy and think he plays as hard as anyone but he was the worst starting D-lineman against the run last year.

# FS, we wont need a pro bowler but Martin isn't cutting it and J.R all but said so himself

The rest is just protecting oursleves with depth.

D-line: I am ok with what we have on the D-line for now until we can learn more about Edwards,Fua, and Mcclain at DT. For 3rd round picks they were not horrible and it was never meant for both of them to start right away last year. Then if we add a new starter at DE, I would be more than happy with Keiser/Hardy and possibly Applewhite (if we re-sign him)as backups

Linebackers- We all know if injury free our starters are well above average, just need to improve our depth/insurance behind them.

Secondary-Once we get an upgrade over Martin and A new # 2 Corner this unit will be fine. I like Captain and Butler as nickel and dime corners. Then having Martin as a backup along with Pugh we should be ok depth wise there at Safety.

O-line- I'm sick of Otah's b.s and I was one of his biggest supporters. Either way Bell did ok( did not stop us from having a top 10 offense) and I was very pleased to have Hangartner back. I am excited to see what Ziemba can do as well at T, and then we Mack Bernadeau who like Hangartner is versatile and can play C or G. Won't hurt to pick up a vet or use a late round pick for depth here.

RB's-If get a scatback to replace fumble prone Goodson as a 3rd option great, if not no big deal.

TE'S Would love to keep Shockey and cut Hartstock. If we don't keep him, Barnidge should be ready to excel in this offense.

QB,Really want to keep D.A as a backup and Clausen is dead to me.

W.R. Love Smitty, like Lafell, hopeful Gettis will come on strong. Here's where I would like an upgrade over Naane and maybe Pilares can be that guy.

Special teams, Ya Mare pissed me off but he got paid and unlikely to go anywhere. Ya baker isn't great, but how often do we punt now that the John Fox offense is gone?

Needs for the team are simple.

DT, CB, LB

DE's No issues

KR/PR No issues

Oline No issues (The place Otah on IR to allow him to heal properly with trainers and Docs from the team to help him. Remember he had no support during the lock out no did TD)

TE's No issues. (Even if we do not resign Shockey, we have Barndige coming off of IR and he was drafted as a Pass catching Te that FOX never used as such. with our current OC and offense, I think he'll be good)

WR No Issues (Smith, Lafell, Gettis, Naanee)

CB Issues (Captain is a great nickle back but has struggled and been brunt tomany times since starting. And has had to many penalties on top of that)

SS/FS No issues Godd starters and Depth

DE's No Issues (Johnson is a beast in the pass or run, Keiser, Thomas I happen to like his non stop drive. this guys does not stop on plays. needs some work though with pass rush skills, Hardy, Greg real deal just needs another camp and a healthy camp to grow into the position.)

The biggest issue we face this offseason is our salary cap room. and there is not much there.

I pied you on accident fyi.

    • What are the matchups, stats and superlatives?   I think this will be a hard game. Bucs are a very balanced team on offense:  7th  in total yards per game, 7th in passing, 10th in rushing. Baker is having another career year even better than last year but despite missing his Godwin and Evans. Bucs defense is poor (29th) particularly passing defense, but we’re also depleted in our receiving with Coker and Sanders likely out. Running Chuba is key but their defense is better against the run. (16th) I think this is likely going to require us to score a lot of points to keep up and hopefully the home field advantage tips the scale in our favor. My other concern is our run defense and being able to stop their rookie study Bucky Irving who the Bucs have shifted more carries to recently and he’s averaging 5.4 ypc and knows how to get into the endzone with 5 TDs so far.
    • This is nonsense and you know it. People will be happy when we are consistently and convincingly winning games against good teams. There are people in here talking down to others after losses and barely beating the terrible NY Giants. If you want to strut around here like only you are a real Panthers fan and rage pooing posts because your jimmies are rustled then hey good luck with all that. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
    • Who had the massive meltdown last year? Hope they feel better this year.
