Let's talk about Mario Williams

I think what you call "part-time" running backs is becoming more of a standard than a luxury. Having two of the calibre that we have is definitely an advantage over most but the sum of the parts, to me, is more than the parts themselves. I think we lose more than just a player if we lose either one of those guys. Just me maybe.

Money-wise, the D'Angelo scenario isn't going away...I liked the idea of re-signing him. You'll always have questions when it comes down to big dollar moves, no matter which NFL team is involved. The cap makes all teams just about equal, right? Right?

How can you justify to "sanity" paying Charles Johnson more than Mario Williams?

Won't happen. Johnson got a 6 year deal paying 12 million a year. Williams will easily get 16-18 million a year making a 6 year deal with him worth more like 100+ deal. The only real concern is that he has only played 18 games in the past 2 years. Teams might not want to risk so much or make a long term deal for someone who has had injury issues. Then again someone will be glad to take a chance.

Right-on....how many times have these "biggest ever" contracts ever payed off? I can't name one off the top of my head....but I can remember plenty of huge deals.

There will always be the team that pulls the trigger on the largest deals, they won't end....probably a good thing.....

Rucker was far from elite. He had a good motor, and was technically sound.

Rucker never could impact the game without peppers, like charles johnson can.

Nice rucker homerism though.

Never said Rucker was elite. I don't think CJ is elite. I think CJ is dang good DE....one we couldn't live without and overpaid him. If we had a one of the weakest DL back in the day.....Rucker would have looked even better b/c he was an all around good DE. He had a pretty good year before Pep arrived as well.....so the he can't play w/o Pep thing never had much of a leg to stand on.
