he may be the best that we have had but is he the best we could have?

he has one more year to get us our ring or at least make us legit contenders. demanding that he gets us more than one winning season in a row is not too much to ask and something that the panthers, JR, and the fans deserve. if fox can't deliver that then we need to get someone who can.

Yea but the Panthers had a above average run game and below average defense. Last I knew, it took a good defense and good run game to win titles.

Oh, but... its the Panthers! How dare you beg to differ with anyone currently tied in with the organization caroliarolls! Your not allowed to do that as the Panthers are a historical team man :/

This one.

7-9, 11-5, 7-9, 8-8, 11-5 etc etc is getting old, we need some 10-6, 11-5, 9-7, 10-6.............. you get the idea.

With or without Fox, what are we getting so pissed about? Look at all the other teams in the NFL and tell me how many of them have less problems then us. Besides the Steelers of course, how many other teams biggest concerns are "IF we go 5-11, Fox is gone" or "IF Pep holds out and walks next year for nothing...." (A full year from now mind you). Think about all the teams that would dream to have our talent. Best running game in the NFL. Both halfbacks are extremly young. Top 2 reciever in NFL. Great offensive line that is pretty young. Our QB is inconsistant but in all honesty, we dont need Dan Marino with our running game. A defense that gave up late last year but can easily be coached. Think about how many of those games we gave up leads but still won. We were up huge on the Saints last year, even Drew Brees (second best season for a QB in history) couldn't lead them back on us. That Giants game sucked with the rushing yards we gave up but we still had a lead late and another chance to win after all that. If this team didnt let the foot off the gas we would have a good defense. No, im not saying top 3 in the league but DEFF good. and again....YOUNG. we have our problems but look at how much worse off we could be.

Look at teams in our own divison, we could be the Bucc's. Thn we would have a field day talking about firing coaches and who we should pick up. That team is awful and will be for a few years. are biggest concerns are IF 2 things happen this year and what Pep MIGHT do and all that. Bottom line we are a good team with a GREAT offense.

i agree if we have a bad season fox is prob gone. i also agree hes the best coach the franchise has ever had, but next year is gonna be the best year in along time for teams that need a new coach with guys like cowher wanting to get back into coaching. as far as jake goes even if fox is fired i thnk jake will be here until he retires, but will prob be reduced to a backup role.

i want us to be excellent....the best. not just better than the teams with trouble or that are below average.

the pieces are mostly there for a championship team. if the leadership can't take this team, especially while healthy, and get us contending for the lombardi then we need someone who can.

Jesus Christ, why are we even talking about canning Fox right now? We are coming off of a 12-4, Division Championship season...yes we failed against Az, but you cannot deny the talent that this team has, and the great potential that they have going into this season.

I think it's a boy scout motto or something...

it's put up or shut up time, imo, as far as the leadership is concerned.

you are right, things are looking like they are going in a positive direction based on what the team did last year. they accomplished a lot and, also imo, last year was just the warm up for this coming year. that is one way of looking at it, but it isn't the only way.

we will have a better idea of whether '08 was a fluke or not based on the results of '09. i'm inclined to believe that it wasn't but if we pull out a stinker of a year, only breaking even or an average year then i don't think we should stay the course. use the last year of fox's contract to be the litmus test for further commitment from the panthers org. would this be a fair way to look at it?

Yes I think so.

If we play well and are in the hunt at the end Fox will be here for the future. Everyone wants to win a Championship but in the end only 1 team does. If that were the litmus test for every coach, there would be a turnover of 31 coaches every year.

You keep Fox because he is a good coach and the team wins many more than they lose. After all how long did it take Cowher for example to win a Super bowl? How many did he win after that one? By many of the huddlers here, Cowher should have been canned long before he won one.

There are several SB winning HCs that aren't coaching this season. Why would that be? Well, even they run their course with their franchises after a bit either by their choice or the team's. A trophy buys a guy some time, obviously. Sometimes too much time (Shanny perhaps).

That said, I think change could happen if the team fails spectacularly and by that I mean hasn't gone deep into the playoffs at all after this year. If the powers that be think the players aren't buying into Fox anymore and they see what they feel is a better alternative they should make the change. After 2009 he will have coached the Cats for 8 years which I think is a fair time to evaluate if it's time to go or not sans SB win or another SB appearance.

I do think that by and large, coaches are fired too quickly and/or the decision on who to hire is made in glaring error. I.E Petrino. Who thought that would have a snowball's chance of working...EVER?
