Hurney Speaks....

Jake's never had a problem with injuries. He's always been a heart-on-his-sleeve, gunslinger type of qb. You take the good with the bad.

The biggest thing I took away from the playoff loss wasn't that Jake had to go, it was that the playcalling was atrocious. We're in uncharted waters as far as his injury goes. He's the only starting qb to undergo this type of surgery. (we all know this) His arm should be better this year, but then again, who knows.

As far as lonebuc's comment about throwing all of our eggs in one basket, that's just nonsense. We'd be doing that if we gambled picks and huge money on another qb just to not have Jake on the field. He isn't the only qb on the roster. He isn't going to play forever. We know this, and the team knows this. That's why we have two other qbs on the roster.

I think Jake wants the Panthers to commit to him for the next few years, rather than just have them extend his contract for cap relief, only to cut him next year. That's just my guess though.
probably so but i don't see him getting a much better offer anywhere else, especially with the crop of QBs coming in....anywhere he goes he is going to be mainly a vet presence and not really seen as a long term solution. next year could change that, though.

work out a deal where if he manages to take us into the playoffs again and limits mistakes he gets his long term deal. it won't be the money that will drive him...it's the commitment. give us a reason to commit long term to you, and we will. let the deal be incentive based and the long term deal be the incentive.

he's like fox, you got another chance....knock it out of the park and you get another chance. come short and your time with the panthers will be over.

Ummmmmm no,

not in a run first/play great D offense like Fox runs. In that offense, a gunslinger has the ability to equalize things the wrong way and neutralize long and tiresome efforts of the defense and running game with one or two plays.

Actually, jake is the farthest thing from the type of QB needed in John Fox's scheme that there is.

They said there was a chance Cadillac wouldn't return from his. It was a freak accident and him being young was a main factor in being able to come back. Last year week 17, he again had the same injury on the opposite knee. Its just been freak accidents and the way he was hurt, showed his heart and how bad he gave it his all to make a play for his team. Figure this second injury happened in week 17 and he's already off crutches and will be ready for the season opener to how much time he missed with he first injury. If anything, his legs will be stronger then they were when he came into the NFL as a rookie. The difference with Caddy and Jake is obviously their age difference. All I was getting at with Jake is his situation, its not wise to put all your marbles in someone unsure.

Then say it. Don't be a dickhead

Ummmmmmm no Jake has been a great QB for the most part and dose very well when not made to throw more then 50% of the time. Our Defense was to blame more for our 5 losses last year then Jake was.

I said it last month and I'll say it again, don't be surprised if we go OG with our first pick to find Vincent's backup this year and replacement afterward.

O-Line first pick, the rest on defense...

1999 all over again

(hopefully with better results)
