Hurney Speaks....

This is about keeping Jake confident more than anything. They have to know the end is coming and have started looking into QBs, but not until next year. And anyway I still believe He will have his arm under control this season. Ya know, it's not like a knee. This was his throwing arm, he will be better this year.

Seamonk - Yea I realized how old Jeff was but even at 38, Jeff was more mobile then what Jake was at 20 years old lol... Jeff's job security looked real awesome, considering if you compare how Jeff and Jake performed as a QB... well, we can obviously tell who was more efficient as a passer... which speaks alot on talent on each particular guy.

Jake is just too old for the Panthers to want to lock in anything longterm. Stupid move if they do.

Anything longterm would be 1. to save money. 2. to have a vet qb who knows the system on the roster. They can still extend him and then bench him.

Jeff and Jake also played in different offenses. Jeff was completely useless in anything that's not a WCO, where's that mobility now?

Also Efficiency as a Passer vs. Winning games. Jeff didn't do poo the end the season. At least Jake threw some interceptions to TRY to win a game, whereas Jeff has never been one to try to throw something in hopes of trying to make a play. Between Dumpoffs and Checkdowns and occasionally WIDE OPEN passes down field, I haven't really seen him make a pass that requires any touch.

Cadillac is atleast young and can rebound from injuries. Jake on the other hand, give him a few concussions next year and dislocate his shoulder and he can kiss his career goodbye.

It doesn't matter how old you are, you can have highly touted rookies come in and they can still be one injury away. Being young has nothing to do with it, you can be young and still fail at rebounding from injuries. Hell, they even said Cadillac probably wouldn't return from his.

I smell something, Did Marty Hurney and Darin Gantt just speak?

Long on words but short on substance, Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said today.....

brown noser  that was from gantt's article about the press conference that hurney gave that gantt was quicker to report on than anyone.

All I was sayin is Jeff was a more efficient passer and he had more accuracy on his passes the Jake did.

Wow, sounds similar to things I heard last year from Panthers fans and yet... Jake still had no true accuracy on his passes lol.. More like, lay it out there for Smith to save his ass. Having below a 60% accuracy doesn't say a guy has a accurate arm. Not to mention, we heard the same thing how Jake's arm was repaired and he was finally getting his arm back. I don't see how his accuracy is suppouse to improve.

They said there was a chance Cadillac wouldn't return from his. It was a freak accident and him being young was a main factor in being able to come back. Last year week 17, he again had the same injury on the opposite knee. Its just been freak accidents and the way he was hurt, showed his heart and how bad he gave it his all to make a play for his team. Figure this second injury happened in week 17 and he's already off crutches and will be ready for the season opener to how much time he missed with he first injury. If anything, his legs will be stronger then they were when he came into the NFL as a rookie. The difference with Caddy and Jake is obviously their age difference. All I was getting at with Jake is his situation, its not wise to put all your marbles in someone unsure.

I said it last month and I'll say it again, don't be surprised if we go OG with our first pick to find Vincent's backup this year and replacement afterward.

fine by me. I don't feel like they should spend their first pick on D line if the value is just not there, just for the sake of picking d line.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, though I think it depends heavily on what CBs and DTs are there.

As for Hurney's comments on Peppers: "We franchised Julius with the expectation of having him back."

I think this is more of him establishing that they have the option of bringing him back. If he makes it look like there is zero chance Peppers plays here next year, it drives his trade value down.

I'll be glad if we go BPA.

Too many on here would just pick up a defensive player just for the sake of drafting a defensive player.

There is much more to it than that, and you don't just draft a DT over someone better just because you need a DT.

If the upgrade elsewhere would be better overall than the 'need' pick.

Yea, I love how the Panthers want to invest big money and time into a 34 year old QB who is one injury short of kissing his job goodbye lol..

You can't tell me if Jake gets put out for the year, that the Panthers are going to stick with him next year with as old as he is..

I bet too that if Fox falls short of the playoffs this year and sticks with Jake even if Jake is healthy, he can kiss his job goodbye.

This from a guy who roots for a team who has a quarterback who was 39 years old last year and just signed Leftwich who is 30 but has been starting in the league just as long as Delhomme.

Jake before 2007 was never seriously hurt. Leftwich has a history of injuries.

I suspect you would like to see Fox and Jake gone since they have combined to be Buc killers since they came here.

Pot meet kettle.

Don't you have a Bucs board to live on? Or, have they all booted you for displaying a complete lack of intelligence?

Take a clue by everyone who is now ignoring you....you have nothing to add and what you do think you have to add is useless.

We get it...you are a Bucs fan...you love your Bucs....you don't like the Panthers. Point taken, now move along.

good thing about the preseason is that hope springs eternal....the fans of 31 teams think they actually have a shot next season (yes 31, not 32....the Lions fans have accepted their place in the universe long ago).
