Kiper: Nothing 'pressing' for Panthers

Ex players aren't always the best at judging talent either (just like they are usually ish head coaches). Mayock is an ex-player who was kind of a scrub type guy, but he knows his ish.

Mayock is the best of the 3 'main' ones IMO.

It's so funny the little spats the ESPN guys have to determine who the draft guru is over there.

Meanwhile Mike Mayock at NFL Network quietly kicks their ass every year.

:biggrin5: yea I agree.

Well I am really, REALLY stupid then (not as stupid as Snyderrato or Jerrah though...lol).

Na you're not stupid, Football has a lot of history behind it now, that's a big help.

Most people learn by playing, but the facts and theories behind the X's and O's can be researched by anyone.

I played for a total of 6 years in my life, and I have learned just as much by watching and reading(and listening) as I did while playing.

Perfect example is watching tape. You can see visually how to exploit something, or to shore up your technique.

Last statement here is all that needs to be said. Nail meets head.

I'd almost bet if Carolina would have had the ammunition, they would have taken Cutler and dropped Jake to the Broncos.

The Broncos wanted a considerable amount and Jay is one of only a few franchise QBs for the next 5 years... The Broncos wanted a veteran QB and had Carolina had the right picks.. I can see them as the ones being a favorite to land Cutler.

That's interesting that you have learned as much by watching and reading as you did while playing. Would you say that having played gives you a bit of an advantage with knowing what to look for when watching tape though (coaches' tape I assume)?

It doesn't hurt, but yea it was coaches tape.

When you have played you understand the terminology, and what is what.

Such as the gaps, gap integrity, staying 'home'.

Basic routes, what a coverage is and is supposed to look like.

You go over all that stuff on the field, but when you can see yourself do it, its just different.

I only played 1(non full year) of college, before I was annihilated.

Not like I was going to make it to the NFL at a big 5' 4" 143

I completely disagree, wouldn't have gotten Cutler if we had three first round picks.

With how Cutler gives up when he gets abused, I wouldn't want him either. His talent is undeniable but his heart is questioned when the pressure is on...

The only real strong point to Jake is his heart as he'll take a ass kicking and keep fighting through it. Jake talent wise as a QB, I would rather be stuck with the guys I have on the Bucs then him... but his heart is definatley unquestionable.

Well, that comment there shows that you know absolutely nothing about the Panthers organization....yet, you continue to live on its message board.

What exactly did Mel Kiper do before he became a "draft guru"? Anybody know?

Wikipedia: "Kiper is president of Kiper Enterprises, which he founded in 1981 while in college. It is responsible for all aspects of a series of annual publications including the NFL Draft Report and Draft Preview.[1] Kiper Enterprises continues to operate, offering information about future NFL draft prospects..."

    • I've watched and listened to several evaluations from the good ole youtubers.  From what I was able to watch, the first few drives before I left to do a job to the end of the game were very different for Bryce.  So he had a "good" game.  Which is great.  I love a win, period.  His WRs had some drops, thing ripped away, etc.  Not great, but a W is a W, right? I think the Panthers have to start Bryce.  You have to see if he continues to build on the good plays and make fewer and fewer bad plays.  No QB is going to play a perfect game.  But we need to continue to see Bryce make plays.  Does he have the ability to will his team to victory?  I'm not sure. I'm still in the Bryce is a backup QB camp.  I'm glad he had a good game, I glad we won, but I need to see more before we make a decision to keep or trade him.  Playing Andy literally does NOTHING to help you for the future.  Andy may not even resign with the Panthers.  We could be out both starting QBs by the time FA/Draft season hits. Ultimately, this is a Dan Morgan and Dave Canales issue.  Can they get value out of Bryce to help them improve the total roster?  Is there a FA QB who would be an upgrade?  A surprise cut or post season trade?  Or is there a QB at the top of the draft who they think they can mold into a high level starting QB?  I don't know. I do know I want to see more of Bryce Young and more out of him on the field.  I want to see the fire, the competitor come out.  I want him getting pissed.  I want him to grab his beanbag and tell us all he's the f'ing dude.  I just don't think we'll see that out of Bryce.  If not the fire, then let me see the ice - let me see the rattle proof dude who kills with accuracy and playmaking no matter how hot and crazy it gets.
    • Ickey at LT and Brady as Center / Swing position player is more valuable to our team IMO
    • That's fair but signing a veteran like Justin Fields to a one year deal and drafting defense with our first is always an option two.  I personally don't think these QBs this year are top 10 worthy selections
